Mrs. Virgil (Emily) Pollifax of New Brunswick, New Jersey, was a widow with grown children. She was tired of attending her Garden Club meetings. She wanted to do something good for her country. This first in the series sends Emily on her first case after she successfully persuades a skeptical CIA recruitment officer that she is the best person for the job.

Delightful light listen. Don’t take things too seriously and it’s an enjoyable tale with amusing characters

I adore Barbara Rosenblat and she did a marvellous job as she always does with the Mrs. Pollifax series! It’s a book I return to again and again (all of them in the series by Dorothy Gilman) and read/listen to kickstart the series.

My favourite book and amazing performance

This was the most wholesome spy book I have ever read and I loved every minute of it. Mrs. Pollifax was indeed unexpected, but so were her companions, and her adventures. Far from predictable, this managed to surprise me while remaining genuinely wholesome. It was delightful from top to bottom.

Indiana Jones meets Romancing the Stone meets Thursday Murder Club with a dash of Get Smart. A rollicking adventure and strangely applicable in light of the global events happening currently. I adore Mrs Pollifax and Barbara Rosenblatt’s performance as narrator is top notch, a movie for your ears. Highly recommend!

I enjoyed the entire book, the characters and plot were very interesting, kept me guessing all the way to the end.

Most unusual story, refreshingly funny

There are many light-hearted, amusing and downright absurd moments in this book and yet there are chilling and gritty times too. Somehow it all works. This is my first novel by Gilman and I’ve found it delightful! I fully intend to binge-listen to as many books in the series as are available in the catalogue.

I really enjoyed this! I thought it might not hold up today but Mrs. Pollfax was such a good character and the story was quite thrilling at times. I plan to listen to the whole series.
