À propos de cet audio

A shocking discovery of human bones reopens an almost fifty-year-old cold case—and rips apart the lives of a group of friends—in a riveting novel by Loreth Anne White, the Amazon Charts and Washington Post bestselling author of The Maid’s Diary.

When human bones are found beneath an old chapel in the woods, evidence suggests the remains could be linked to the decades-old case of missing teen Annalise Jansen.

Homicide detective Jane Munro—pregnant and acutely attuned to the preciousness of life—hopes the grim discovery will finally bring closure to the girl’s family. But for a group of Annalise’s old friends, once dubbed the Shoreview Six by the media, it threatens to expose a terrible pledge made on an autumn night forty-seven years ago.

The friends are now highly respected, affluent members of their communities, and none of them ever expected the dark chapter in their past to resurface. But as Jane and forensic anthropologist Dr. Ella Quinn peel back the layers of secrets, the group begins to fracture. Will one cave? Will they turn on each other?

The investigation takes a sharp turn when Jane discovers a second body—that of the boy long blamed for Annalise’s disappearance. As the bones tell their story, the group learns just how far each will go to guard their own truth.

Will definitely read more from her, I am hooked and hope to find Jane’s character in other novels

Build up was fantastic

I had a problem with the narrator’s arch and overblown delivery. All of the female characters sounded alike—bitchy.

Hard to listen to

I enjoyed this book and it kept me reading because I wanted to find out what had happened.

I didn’t find out what happened to them in the main part of the story. But upon thinking about it today, I realize that there are many unfinished stories in this novel.

I wonder if there will be a sequel to let us know:

Spoilers if you read further: where is the missing husband? What happens to the five remaining friends? What happens to Mary’s daughter? I was left wondering about too much.

Enjoyable

I liked the story and the concept of the book and the way it flowed, the characters and the cleverness. The performance, however, was sorely lacking. In addition as a South African, I honestly feel that better care could’ve been taken around the Afrikaans in the story, it didn’t even remotely sound correct It grated on me when I heard the bad ascents, not just the South African ones but the Scottish ones as well it was horrible This story would’ve done much better with a stronger narrator.

Interesting story, terrible performance

I ended up really enjoying this book even though I started out on the fence. Initially I was caught off guard by the Canadian references but got used to it. My biggest issues were: 1. The accents -especially the French one -did not seem authentic. 2. Character names -Wendy Walker and Dr Quinn. Really? Choose something original please. Overall the story was fun and I enjoyed it.

Enjoyed it

The book has great reviews so I really wanted to enjoy it but I just can’t get over the accents, the fake drunk slur, the amount of times the author uses “regards/regarded”, it all takes away from the story and annoyed me too much to keep listening.

Couldn’t finish it

A commendable contribution to the genre. I'm interested to learn more about the main character. Good twist ending. I enjoyed the Canadian setting, but questioned the authenticity of some of the dialogue. The narrator is expressive but the accents were horrible. I'm sorry to bluntly criticize someone's work, but the absurd accents negatively impacted my enjoyment of the story. They were inconsistent and somehow devolved to Eastern European. Even the pronunciation was off - "R Ceee em Pee" vs. "R C M Pee". If I indulge in the next in the series, it will not be the audio version.

Good for the Genre

It was a struggle to listen to Carly Robins try to do different accents. When she just read normally it was good but her accents were abhorrent.

Amazing story wish I had read it not listened to it, spoiled the story for me

Excellent Story Terrible Narration

I like Loreth Ann White’s books but this narration made it a struggle to finish the book.

Good story, terrible narration.

Overall the story is good until the last 30-40 minutes when it reveals who the killer is...
it is a woke book with reference on gender and pro-abortion.
It is more a teen than a adult book.

good but not great
