Number-one New York Times Best Seller

Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader team up against a threat to the Empire in this thrilling novel from best-selling author Timothy Zahn.

“I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.” Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root - its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn. Fierce rivals for the emperor’s favor, and outspoken adversaries on Imperial affairs - including the Death Star project - the formidable pair seem unlikely partners for such a crucial mission. But the Emperor knows it’s not the first time Vader and Thrawn have joined forces. And there’s more behind his royal command than either man suspects.

In what seems like a lifetime ago, General Anakin Skywalker of the Galactic Republic, and Commander Mitth’raw’nuruodo, officer of the Chiss Ascendancy, crossed paths for the first time. One on a desperate personal quest, the other with motives unknown...and undisclosed. But facing a gauntlet of dangers on a far-flung world, they forged an uneasy alliance - neither remotely aware of what their futures held in store.

Now, thrust together once more, they find themselves bound again for the planet where they once fought side by side. There they will be doubly challenged - by a test of their allegiance to the Empire...and an enemy that threatens even their combined might.

Praise for Thrawn: Alliances:

“It’s a science fiction beach read in the best way, brisk and amusing, with some cool additions to the Star Wars galaxy.” (Den of Geek)

“Like all of Zahn’s novels set in a galaxy far, far away, it’s an essential read for anyone looking for an artistically done adventure.” (CNET)

After listening to the 1st book in this new trilogy I was anxious to get to the 2nd. My only complaint is the voice used for Anakin. I know it is one guy doing all the voices & I also know he can't sound exactly like the actor in the films, but he sounds like a character from a Bill & Ted film. Minor nitpick though. It didn't ruin the story at all.

Not as good as the 1st book, but still good.

I pretty much specifically look for Marc Thompson as a narrator how, he does Thrawns voice perfectly, his timing is excellent and the story itself was great. I've been waiting for this one since I read the first!

Now for what I didn't like, I didn't enjoy listening to "double vision" scenes over and over, most star wars fans understand the force and how it works. I found the story to be a bit meh with it jumping back and forth, honestly I would of preferred some more focus on Thrawn and Vader and less on Anakin and padme(just me). while I rate these as negatives for me personally, I loved the book as a whole and the Vader/Thrawn interactions really we're solid.

Overall a great book, I would of preferred more Thrawns thoughts as I like to call them from the first book but absolutely no reason a fan of the series or a new comer shouldn't read this. can't wait for the next one!

Another great Thompson/Zahn/Thrawn book!

Marc Thompson does it again. Amazing voice acting and production value go into this Star Wars audiobook.

My main complaint is that I wish James Earl Jones could have voiced Vader—and that I wish Marc Thompson could voice Thrawn in the live action shows that are to feature Thrawn. Though I did enjoy the voice work of Lars Mikkelsen in Rebels.

These narrations by Marc Thompson definitely make the experience an immersive and enjoyable one. Sound effects and original Star Wars music are welcomed as well.

Timothy Zahn, what can I say? The man has been a Star Wars content maker for a long while and it warms my nostalgic heart to see his name on the book... I had a book of his, Dark Force Rising, when I was 9 that had a picture of Thrawn on the cover. Nice to revisit him 20 years later.

All this said, the story reads (or sounds) like a couple episodes of Clone Wars and Rebels episodes mashed up.

I’m not worthy to criticize it, but as a humble listener, I found I wasn’t so drawn by the plot as I was by the characterization. Zahn definitely has created something formidable in Thrawn, and poignant in the memories Thrawn has of the apparently deceased Anakin Skywalker.

Again, the plot in the clone war era flashbacks was only mildly interesting, the details and descriptions were perhaps necessary but eye glazing.

Vader and Thrawn are both interesting enough to keep the book going, and Zahn avoided portraying their relationship as a buddy-cop routine.

Alright I rambled enough.
Hope you enjoy the book!

I loved Zahn's old Thrawn books from the 'LEGENDS' canon, and these first two of the new 'CANON' have proved that Zahn knows how to write a character constantly enough that he can even change the backstory without stripping the character of their essence.

I appreciate that this book functions enough as a standalone that reading the first ('Thrawn') isn't entirely necessary, but adds to the characters if you have. Additionally, I enjoy the flipping of the story's tenses to follow characters in multiple time periods at the same time (in the first book, it was entries in a journal vs. present day; in this book, it was a Clone Wars-era mission vs. pre/early Rebel Alliance-era).

As always, Marc Thompson knocks it out of the park with his narrations. The only thing I would wish changed is to have a female voice actor tackling some of the female roles - it sort of takes me out of the story hearing a grown man try to play a woman or young girl. I'm stoked with the announcement of a new entry ('Thrawn: Treason').

The story of Thrawn continues in this book. I really enjoyed this story although I do believe the previous book to be superior, this one is a great addition to any Star Wars fans library!
