À propos de cet audio
In Darujhistan, the city of blue blue fire, it is said that Love and Death shall arrive dancing. It is summer, and the heat is oppressive, but for the small, rotund man in the faded red waistcoat discomfiture is not just because of the sun. All is not well. Dire portents plague his nights and haunt the city streets like fiends of shadow. Assassins skulk in alleyways, but the quarry has turned, and the hunters become the hunted. Hidden hands pluck the strings of tyranny like a fell chorus. While the bards sing their tragic tales, somewhere in the distance can be heard the baying of hounds...and in the distant city of Black Coral, ruled by Anomander Rake, Son of Darkness, ancient crimes awaken, intent on revenge. It seems Love and Death are indeed about to arrive...hand in hand, dancing.
A thrilling, harrowing novel of war, intrigue, and dark, uncontrollable magic, Toll the Hounds is the next chapter in Erikson's monumental series - epic fantasy at its most imaginative and storytelling at its most exciting.
"This novel and all others in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series follow my own pronunciations of Malazan words and names. My thanks to Michael and Jane and everyone at Brilliance Audio." (Steven Erikson, Victoria, B.C. Canada, January 2014)

A siege is approaching, and the city has little time to prepare. The people have no food and no weapons, and the enemy has sworn to slaughter them all. To save the city will take a miracle, but what it has is Orhan. A colonel of engineers, Orhan has far more experience with bridge building than battles, is a cheat and a liar, and has a serious problem with authority. He is, in other words, perfect for the job.

A shadow has fallen over the Tressian Republic. Ruling families - once protectors of justice and democracy - now plot against one another with sharp words and sharper knives. Blinded by ambition, they remain heedless of the threat posed by the invading armies of the Hadari Empire. Yet as Tressia falls, heroes rise. Felix Castor is a freelance exorcist, and London is his stomping ground. It may seem like a good ghostbuster can charge what he likes and enjoy a hell of a lifestyle, but there's a risk: sooner or later he's going to take on a spirit that's too strong for him. When Castor accepts a seemingly simple ghost-hunting case at a museum in the shadowy heart of London, what should have been a perfectly straightforward exorcism is rapidly turning into the Who Can Kill Castor First Show, with demons and ghosts all keen to claim the big prize.

The galaxy remembers Hadrian Marlowe as a hero: the man who burned every last alien Cielcin from the sky. They remember him as a monster: the devil who destroyed a sun, casually annihilating four billion human lives - even the emperor himself - against Imperial orders. But Hadrian was not a hero. He was not a monster. He was not even a soldier. Fleeing his father and a future as a torturer, Hadrian finds himself stranded on a strange, backwater world.

Histoire
A vibrant and powerful epic set against an alternate Bronze Age, this tale of gods, men and monsters, conspiracy and war, is a rich, compelling and original tale from a master of the historical and fantasy genres. The people caught up in toils of the gods are merely trying to survive. Victims of vicious whims, trapped by their circumstances or pushed beyond what the mortal frame can bear, a handful of god-touched mortals—a scribe, a warlord, a dancer and a child - are about to be brought together in a conspiracy of their own.

Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

There has always been a darkness to Ilmar, but never more so than now. The city chafes under the heavy hand of the Palleseen occupation, the choke-hold of its criminal underworld, the boot of its factory owners, the weight of its wretched poor and the burden of its ancient curse. What will be the spark that lights the conflagration? Despite the city's refugees, wanderers, murderers, madmen, fanatics and thieves, the catalyst, as always, will be the Anchorwood–that dark grove of trees, that primeval remnant, that portal, when the moon is full, to strange and distant shores.

City as character
This is so much richer on second reading. The novels in this series are enormous - over forty hours as audiobooks, and yet so much more is implied.
This is Urban Fantasy in its purest sense: the city of Darujhistan is almost a character , with the individual tragedies of residents portrayed as richly as the lives of the protagonists.
Gods and demons, heroes and villains, wise men and fools, all are portrayed here, and all feel equally important.

A bit more confusing than prev books
I think Kruppe was the narrator often but it was confusing since the narrator voices him like 5 other characters. I miss the old Kruppe voiced by the other guy. He was legit. This one was a bit more confusing and that's saying something. Hopefully next book is less awkward in the narration.

Stellar performance and story!
The Narrator, Michael Page outdid himself in this book, a big leap from previous audiobooks. My only minor niggle is Anomander’s voice as a haughty noble, and he is anything but! The Son of Darkness meets Downtown Abbey threw me off I must admit.

Not a strong entry
Narration was fantastic but the story plodded and plodded along at points . The climax was also disappointing and at times I was stuggling to make it through the storyline. I love this series as a whole, the deifinition of epic but found this entry to be a tough one to complete. Possibly some Malazan fatigue but I was hoping for more from this.

Cropper’s voice and pronunciation of names frustrating
The new narrator has been on my nerves since he took over. It took me some time to figure out who he was talking about because he obviously never listened to the first narrator. For example, Adjunct Tevore name is mispronounced, and Cropper’s jocularity is entirely missing. It’s a catastrophic let down.
