Description

In the next installment of the New York Times best-selling Throne of Glass series, follow Chaol on his sweeping journey to a distant empire.

Chaol Westfall has always defined himself by his unwavering loyalty, his strength, and his position as the captain of the Guard. But all of that has changed since the glass castle shattered, since his men were slaughtered, since the king of Adarlan spared him from a killing blow, but left his body broken.

His only shot at recovery lies with the legendary healers of the Torre Cesme in Antica - the stronghold of the southern continent's mighty empire. And with war looming over Dorian and Aelin back home, their survival might lie with Chaol and Nesryn convincing its rulers to ally with them.

But what they discover in Antica will change them both - and be more vital to saving Erilea than they could have imagined.

Fantastic.

I hesitated to pick up this one, because ugh... Chaol.

But Maas did not disappoint, and neither did Chaol, to my surprise.

Evans is a phenomenal narrator, which is why I started Throne of Glass to begin with.

Eagerly awaiting number 7.

continued masterpiece.

I have one book left in this series, and I'm dreading the end...because I simply do not want the books to end. Sarah J Maas did a masterful job of weaving the next phase of the battle, that reprieve before everything comes to an end, a reprieve (if you can call it that) that comes with more plot twists, the unfolding and healing of more trauma, and even more complex character developments and new players being added to the story! The world she has created is so rich and real, it's hard not lose yourself in every storyline, while bracing yourself for the finale. Elizabeth Evans is the heart and soul of what brings all of this rich nuanced world to life!! she is this series!

Great story, slightly mediocre writing

Love the story, but the characters are a bit 1D at times, for instance the omniscience of the author creeps in sometimes. Totally different characters in different places come to the same conclusions, turns of phrase etc. Also characterization is limited, most characters respond the same way to certain stimuli. Ex: something sad happens the characters are sad, and every male love interest is possessive in the same way. Also, the characters are never surprised or caught off guard by anything that happens. For example footsteps behind a character might immediately be identified, or something happens thats surprising to us as readers, and they post-event explain how it was all in the plan.

TLDR: Great story, needs a bit more specific character development and verisimilitude in scenarios to be excellent. Overall would recommend

edge of my seat

loved the "bring the group together" storyline but was getting tired of Caol and his self deprecation. thank god that's over Irene is perfect for him. now let's get Aylin to step out of her constant martyrdom. get in done girl!

A whole story about chaol? bleh

You could actually skip this novel entirely and it would be fine. I love this series so this book is such a disappointment. Just read a summary online and move onto the next book. The entire book was so slow and there was I guess one major bit of info revealed but otherwise you can summarize this as Chaol finally gets over Aelin by ways of a super co-dependent relationship. Elizabeth Evans is an amazing narrator as always

Tower of Dawn

Incredible book... where the readers may not expect the result but wants it. The inter book character connections are outstanding and draws each character closer to the reader , chapter by chapter. This series is truly a painting of words, where the reader feels each character emotionally, physically as the art takes us on a journey in our minds. I am looking forward to the last book ... the last in the art collection of such a gifted writer.

Dull

There are some parts of this book that I enjoyed but they are not many. I liked the introduction of new character and relationships to the mix, the highlight is the sartaq/nesryn storyline, however, it was painful to listen to, I didn't care for this book for most of the time and often found myself wondering if I should just skip it. Few things of importance to the plot happen and it felt slow and dull most of the time. Even when I liked very few things, I really didn't enjoy most of it.

Best narrator

Love this series and especially LOVE the narration done by Elizabeth Evans. I would listen to any series she narrates just because she does such a great job.

What's Chaol been up to?

First of all, I adore this book series. Right from the beginning. Having said that: Chaol is not my favorite character by any means. He's blindly loyal, broods too much, and has made some really bad decisions...which is exactly why we needed this book. I want to go right back to where we left Aelin, but the fact is that this book tied several pieces of information together. We learned so much new information as well, and Chaol got a lot of personal redemption. He's still not my favorite character, but I really like Yrene. We got a ton of character development out of Nezrin, which was needed.
In the end, this will not be anyone's favorite book of the series, but it is a necessary part of the whole.

This is basically a stretched out Novella

This book is basically a long drawn out novella. The story line was OK at best and definitely not what I would have used as the next book in the series. It's very slow going and doesn't really pick up.

not up to the usual standards

I was so looking forward to the release of this book. Unfortunately, the first 2/3 of the book dragged and felt more like a history lesson than a novel- all important and relevant information but could have been told in significantly fewer chapters saving room for some actual action and forward momentum of the storyline. A good read nonetheless but didn’t leave me on the edge of my seat as with the earlier books in the series. Hopefully the final book will return to the previous level of action and intrigue.

A boring diversion

This book exists literally just to give you two kernels of information about the volg and to give happily ever afters to chaol and nezrin. It did not need to be so long and it was so annoying to have to wade through this for the scraps of info necessary for the next book. I'd recommend not reading this and going for spark notes of you can.

An Offshoot From The Main Storyline

First of all, Chaol is my least favorite character in the Throne of Glass series (which is one of my all time favorites) so I wasn't thrilled to get into a whole book about him. That said, there was quite a bit revealed that will be necessary to the next book in the series. I enjoyed the Nesryn and the Prince story line and even the Chaol and Irene story line.

This book lacked the excitement of the others. I feel like these stories could have been part of the other books and didn't need to be so long but I'm glad I know what I know now and CANNOT wait for the next book due out in 2018.

Is that it? 22 hours... could've been covered in 6 hours

This whole story could have been whittled down to a part in a novel that would have included the main characters of the series. While I love these secondary characters and understand the need to develop them and add more dimension to the history of the Volge, I didn't want a whole book just dedicated to the life and times of Chaol and Nesryn... This installment in the series was missing the action present in the other adventures.

Interesting content, but endless long winded conversations... characters and interactions that were clearly just to fill up pages of the book... no real action sequences... DISAPPOINTED...

A Must Read

I have read several other reviews of Tower of Dawn stating this is just a filler book and not really necessary. I disagree. The story does start off slow and picks up quickly. The book provides a great explanation of the past and further develops three main characters. Either way, I really enjoyed the book and am extremely excited about reading the next and final book.
