Publisher's Summary

In the epic fifth installment in this “compulsively readable” (People) series, Galbraith’s “irresistible hero and heroine” (USA Today) take on the decades-old cold case of a missing doctor, one which may be their grisliest yet.

Private Detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he is approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough - who went missing in mysterious circumstances in 1974.

Strike has never tackled a cold case before, let alone one 40 years old. But despite the slim chance of success, he is intrigued and takes it on; adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency, Robin Ellacott, are currently working on. And Robin herself is also juggling a messy divorce and unwanted male attention, as well as battling her own feelings about Strike.

As Strike and Robin investigate Margot’s disappearance, they come up against a fiendishly complex case with leads that include tarot cards, a psychopathic serial killer, and witnesses who cannot all be trusted. And they learn that even cases decades old can prove to be deadly . . .

What the critics say

"Rowling's emotionally intelligent portrayal of her protagonists never overwhelms the whodunit story line." (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

"One of contemporary crime fiction's most delightful partnerships." (Seattle Times)

"Rowling's wizardry as a writer is on fulsome display in Lethal White, a behemoth of a novel that flies by in a flash. This is a crime series deeply rooted in the real world, where brutality and ugliness are leavened by the oh-so-human flaws and virtues of Galbraith's irresistible hero and heroine." (USA Today)

Exceeded my expectations

I prefer long books so I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. That said I would prefer a dash more of Cormoran's and Robin's relationship. Also there were a couple of loose ends that left me wondering if they would resurface in a later novel. The narration is particularly noteworthy. Simply put, Robert Glenister is a brilliant narrator.

Gripping story and admirable reading performance

I’ve recently read press coverage of expressed outrage over Galbraith‘s inclusion of a “cross-dressing serial killer” protagonist. Maybe these outraged people should read the novel first...
Anyway, I loved the story and the extraordinary gallery of characters in this novel, so exquisitely described, and so brilliantly brought to life by Mr Glenister. Wow. Must listen!!

Excellent who Dunn it story

Do not recommend listening just before going to sleep, I tried that a couple of times and stayed up to late because of intrigue. An excellent dynamic between characters and great performances.

what a whodunit!

full of twists and turns, as you start to think you know who was responsible for the crime, you arrive at the end and for me at least anyway was totally surprised by who the perpetrator turned out to be, highly recommend.

Another great story by R. Galbraith

The five stories that comprise this series by Robert Galbraith are thoroughly enjoyable. This current book does not disappoint. I have no hesitation in recommending all 5 books for wonderful reading /listening pleasure.

Robert Glenister's narration, as always is A++++!

So addictive I ended up on penicillin

Rowling does it again. Fantastic addition to the Strike series. The story, character development and narration are so good that I could not stop listening. At over 30 hours of audio, a long stretch of ear bud wearing, with a resulting ear infection which required antibiotics I enjoyed every minute of this book.

I could not have loved a book more

I loved this book and tried to make it last as long as possible. I’m so sad it’s over and can’t wait for the next one. I read all of the time and this is the best one I’ve read this year for sure. If you liked the other ones in the series you won’t be disappointed.

Fabulous read and narrator...didn’t want it to end.

I can hardly put into words how enthralled I am with J.K. Rowling’s books. From Potter to Strike with that gem “A Casual Vacancy” in betweer, she weaves an incredibe story without any pretention or long, unnecessary descriptions. Her subtle turn of phrase is amazing...every now and then I have to stop and say “wow”. And now for the arduous wait for her next novel.

RH and RG make a great team and have produced another winner.

The Cormorant Strike series keeps getting better. Troubled Blood has lots of meat to sink into and a very satisfying ending. Strike and Robin are put through the wringer yet again and their brooding relationship adds a nice side story as usual. The quality of the writing is excellent RG does not rest on her success but continues to perfect the craft.

Robert Glenister is one of my favourite narrators and makes all the characters come alive distinctly.

Good detective story, annoying characters

I liked the intrigue but the ''sexual tension'' between the main characters is getting a bit old. I keep having to remind myself that less time has passed for them in the series than for us waiting for the next book. How long are they going to keep going over in their minds if they should or shouldn't make a move? For what it's worth, I'd prefer they didn't...

I don't agree with the author's controversial public comments this year but I didn't find anything in the book that was offensive towards anybody.

All in all, I did really enjoy the story but found certain aspects of the characters annoying!
