À propos de cet audio

This memoir is a celebration of Tim Curry's’s life’s work, and a testament to his profound impact on the entertainment industry as we know it today.

There are few stars in Hollywood today that can boast the kind of resume Tony award-nominated actor Tim Curry has built over the past five decades. From his breakout role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show to his iconic depiction as the sadistic clown Pennywise in It to his critically acclaimed role as the original King Arthur in both the Broadway and West End versions of Spamalot, Curry redefined what it meant to be a “character actor,” portraying heroes and villains alike with complexity, nuance, and a genuine understanding of human darkness.

Now, in his memoir, Curry takes readers behind-the-scenes of his rise to fame from his early beginnings as a military brat to his formative years in boarding school and university, to the moment when he hit the stage for the first time. He goes in-depth about what it was like to work on some of the most emblematic works of the 20th century, constantly switching between a camera and a live audience. He also explores the voicework that defined his later career and provided him with a chance to pivot after surviving a catastrophic stroke in 2012 that nearly took his life.

With the upcoming 50th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the 40th anniversary of Clue, there’s never been a better time for Tim to share his story with the world.

Editorial Review

Well worth the antici… pation
In the introduction of Vagabond, Tim Curry muses that penning his memoir offered an opportunity to “malign my own reputation.” Delightful self-deprecation aside, the icon of stage and screen does anything but, instead he crafts a charming collection of personal stories, all narrated in his inimitable voice. In this reflective journey alight with humor and honesty, Curry recalls his childhood, creative journey, and career, while meditating on how lived experiences informed his craft. Of course, he also looks back at memorable roles, ranging from Dr. Frank-n-Furter to Sir Nigel Thornberry to King Arthur in the musical Spamalot. Along the way, he shares plenty of behind-the-scenes anecdotes fans will no doubt enjoy, whether enduring hours of daily prosthetics application on the set of Legend, working alongside Carol Burnett and the Muppets, embodying the demonic Pennywise (despite his own distaste for clowns), or celebrating the unique joys and possibilities of voice work. —Alanna M., Audible Editor

I've always had a crush on Tim Curry that is evergreen. It started with the movie Annie and has lasted all these years. It is great to hear his story from being a boy to where he is now and his illustrious career with music, Broadway, TV, voice work, and movies.
He does avoid his private life and all the salacious details that are probably there. I am still curious but I have to respect his. Want to keep that part private.

He is a testament to the human spirit to have gone through what he has gone through and still persevering.

It is wonderful to hear his voice and to hear his story.

Mr Tim Curry

Tim Curry’s Vagabond proves he’s still the coolest villain (and hero) in the room. Funny, classy, and deeply human. This memoir feels like sharing a drink with the legend himself. Highly recommended!

Side note: if you haven't heard him read "A Christmas Carol" you really should!

I could listen to Tim Curry read the phone book!

I highly recommend this listen. A wonderfully crafted memoir and beautifully told by the vagabond himself.

An absolute joy

This is a beautiful thoughtful memoir. Tim Curry’s speech has slowed since his stroke, but his annunciation is great. Just play the audiobook at 1.75 and it’s perfect.

Fab, just adjust speed to 1.75

if any of you want to know what living in a state of grace is- please listen to the last chapter of Tim Curry’s autobiography. I heard every word in complete astonishment and attendance, relished everything and felt my heart burning for him. Thank God he has regained his voice and mind after such devastating events- an unloving mother, a father who left him too soon, and finally ending up in a wheelchair with the many difficulties a human body endures after a major stroke. I am lucky and old enough to have followed his career alongside my own in time-line and in the same places, I understood everything he spoke of, and identified with most of it. He touched my heart deeply, and I am so proud of his kindness towards everyone, and his ability to go beyond long-term fame and also disability to showing us the strength and heart of what it is to be human. I am most grateful to his friends and caregivers and his gardens for his care and well-being.
This is the person I admire, he is a teacher to us all. Every tear I wept at the end is for him in deepest thanks and gratitude for telling us his story. Deepest bows in appreciation and respect for this terrific endeavour. He gives everyone hope and love.

His toughest role yet
