Description

Alicen McAffery finally has the life her mother always dreamed for her: a beautiful home in Santa Monica, a successful husband, and an adorable daughter. Then tragedy blows her carefully assembled facade to pieces. Worse yet - Alicen feels solely responsible.

At rock bottom, she decides to accompany a childhood friend back to Red Lodge, Montana, where they spent summers together as kids. The peaceful mountain landscape, accented with lush forests and small-town charm, brings back happy memories of time spent with her beloved, eccentric Grandma Josephine. Alicen begins to hope that perhaps things could be different here. Perhaps the oppressive guilt will lift - if only for a moment.

But when Alicen starts hearing voices and seeing mysterious figures near the river in the woods, she begins to fear she's completely lost her sanity, as it's rumored her grandmother did. Or might there be more to Red Lodge than meets the eye? Could the voices and visions be real - and her only means of finding the healing she so desperately needs? Or will they prove to be her final undoing?

Fascinating!

When Jane, Alison's daughter, drowns in a swimming pool, Alison blames herself and soon starts to lose her mind with grief. She begins to hear voices and see children who want to lead her to the Light. Battle rages in Alison's mind and soul as her mother and others tries to get her medical assistance but will it poison her even more? I am fascinated by the workings of the mind but even more so the spiritual message of love and forgiveness spoke music to my soul.

An adventure into mind & spirit

It took me a while to get hooked. The disturbing evenrs & struggles of the main character opened my eyes to what some must press throught to get freedom.

Bravo bravo bravo

This was a wonderfully refreshing book with the perfect narrator. Thank you Rachelle and I am so looking forward to future books by you. Your truly are your Daddy’s daughter with your artistic ability to write love and forgiveness in your story. I enjoyed the references to some of your Daddy’s books as well. More more more please

Too long and redundant

I Struggled to finish; the build up was slow and the resolution too fast. The reader was a little dry.

Tedious and slow

Perhaps this book is better in print ... I found the dialogue repetitive and stilted - conversations were exhausting, wading thru what seemed to be the same ground over and over.

I’ve had family in mental health facilities, and I believe Jesus is the answer - so I really wanted to love this book. I stuck it out to the end to find out how it all came together, but it was tedious to get to the end.

Sad to leave a negative review, since her dad’s books are so good.

Just Okay.

The best part was that she referenced her dad's story. It was very slow and not enough depth.

Look out Ted

Excellent read. This is the third of Rachelle's books that I have read and have really enjoyed all of them. This one particularly encouraged me because I too deal with some of those accusing voices, even after having been a believer for nearly 40 years. The truths that she spoke over and over here ministered to my spirit.
Daddy Ted Dekker may have some competition, but I'm guessing he won't mind.
