À propos de cet audio

The brand new novella in the Sunday Times #1 bestselling Rivers of London series.

THEY DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY ACROSS THE POND . . .

When retired FBI Agent Patrick Henderson calls in an 'X-Ray Sierra India' incident, the operator doesn't understand. He tells them to pass it up the chain till someone does.

That person is FBI Special Agent Kimberley Reynolds. Leaving Quantico for snowbound Northern Wisconsin, she finds that a tornado has flattened half the town—and there's no sign of Henderson.

Things soon go from weird to worse, as neighbors report unsettling sightings, key evidence goes missing, and the snow keeps rising—cutting off the town, with no way in or out . . .

Something terrible is awakening. As the clues lead to the coldest of cold cases—a cursed expedition into the frozen wilderness—Reynolds follows a trail from the start of the American nightmare, to the horror that still lives on today . . .

The story was pretty good, though a different feel from the other Rivers of London books. The narrator did a good job voicing the main character, but not as good on the others, although she either got better as it went on, or I got used to it. Overall an enjoyable, if different, book.

Good but not great

Sigh, I agree with another review… good not great… The narration was just ok ( nothing like Kobnah’s!) I agree with yet another review: it’s a parka, not a parker…plus I’d add that the male character voices were poorly done. And this story didn’t have the humour of the Peter Grant stories, nor the architectural fascination….and just lacked the mysticism, the deep sense of place and the fun….

Agreed: good not great

I chose to buy this despite the many bad reviews because I didn't want to miss out on any of the Rivers of London lore. I had low expectations and was still disappointed. Not Aaranovitch's best work. And as others have said, the narration is goddawful. I thought maybe other reviewers might have been a bit misogynistic, but all her male voices do sound the same, despite the characters supposedly coming from different regions, and I wish she had listened to how Holdbrook-Smith does Peter Grant so she could have at least aimed for something similar. Her British accent sounds fake but apparently she IS British? I am confused. Her female voices are just as bad, like an outdated aricature of the Midwest/deep south, so that everyone sounds middle-aged even if they're meant to be young.

The story was just ok. Aaranovitch had the opportunity to spread knowledge of Native American mythology but barely skimmed the surface.

meh

I was a little worried about buying this title. But Ben Aaroncvitch has not let me down in the past, and he did not let me down now.....

What a great story !!!

I love this world and most of the narrators have been outstanding. This is a bit of a wobble, alas.

It's parKEH not parKER

The story was very good, the monster suitably scary, I was very interesting hearing the story from a North American character. However really couldn’t warm to Kimberly.

Is it bad that I miss Peter Grant?

I read the poor reviews that warned about the mispronounced words (parka, wigwam) and the in-credible voices used by Ms. Rawlins for the male characters. Too bad that I was so excited to hear another book from the Rivers of London universe, I ignored the warnings. Unfortunately, the repeated errors by the reader became painful to hear and spoiled my enjoyment of the story.

Mr. Aaronovitch and his editors could do some more research about winter ice conditions because "craters" in new or shallow ice is unlikely. In fact, the whole production seems hurried and feels overall, like a poor offering. Perhaps The Rivers of London franchise has had a free ride from Kobna Holdbrook-Smith. I'm sorry I bought this audible book. I suggest everyone wait until the next one.

I Should Have Listened to Those Who Warned Me

I'd really been looking forward to the next title in this series, but I can't even finish it. I cannot get past the narration which for me is like nails on a blackboard. Don't even get me started on the oddly mispronounced words. While I normally love Ben Aaronovitch's writing, I can't even comment on the plot as I just can't get past that narration to actually get into the story. I wish I'd bought it with a credit so I could return it.

Such a disappointment
