Description

The first three books in the best-selling Witches of Half Moon Bay series. Action-packed urban fantasy with a heavy dose of paranormal romance. Witches, werewolves, and WTF.

I’m what you call normal by day, and woo-woo by night.

As a college student, I spend my days in class and my evenings selling sage to PTA moms who do moon rituals to manifest better parking spaces. My best friend is a cat who likes pizza, and a “night out” includes hand delivering mysterious packages to the local “coven” of small business owners who repeatedly invite me to their meetings - clothing optional.

My life is weird. But it’s not magic. Magic isn’t real. At least, that’s what I believed - right up until the moment he walks into my store.

Alex Channing is rude, brutish, and a constant pain in my ass. He’s also the hottest specimen I’ve ever seen. Maybe that’s why words fail me in his presence. Or maybe it’s the pinging feeling in my gut that says he’s more than what he seems.

But when he miraculously saves me from certain death, at the hand of a monster whose very existence shouldn’t even be possible, I’m forced to reconsider what’s real.

My denial is strong, but the reality of who - and what - Alex really is can’t be ignored. Neither can the existence of the monsters who hunt me. The truth is magic is real. And the only thing I’m more in danger of losing than my life - is my heart.

Get hooked on werewolves and witches in a way you've never heard them before! This set contains the first three books in the best-selling Witches of Half Moon Bay series. Follow Sam and Alex on their journey through the world of witches, werewolves, and wtf!

1 credit for 3 books!! Great deal!

The book is told in dual POV. We meet Alex and Sam. Alex is a well trained Hunter and he’s on the hunt for a cure, and Sam is a college student who is trying to find herself. At some point their worlds collide, and that’s when the fun begins!!
Throughout the series we get to see Hunters, werewolves, and witches. It was such a fun listen and watching Alex stumble along the way was kinda nice since he is swoon worthy. It’s nice to knock a guy off the pedestal occasionally.
I would recommend this book-set to anyone who enjoys listening to paranormal romance books. Mainly this series focuses on hunters, witches, and werewolves.
16+ due to some mature content in the book.

I felt like the narrator, Kelly Pruner did a well job portraying Sam and Alex. The inflections she used were great and kept me listening till the very end.

Different narration may improve appreciation of st

Overall, I think the narration detracted from my ability to really enjoy or appreciate the story. First, the story is told from 2 POV's (female & male), though all is narrated by a girl who doesn't have a single masculine tone to her voice. That wouldn't be so bad, and her normal voice is fine - but the voice for when the MFC is speaking grinds on my ears and my nerves. It's that kind of whiney, higher pitched voice a girl gets when on the verge of crying and trying to talk while choking back tears. That's not just when the character is supposed to be emotional either, it's her "all the time" speaking voice.

As far as the story itself, there is nothing that irritates me more than an idiot female who is "supposed" to be smart. She's not supposed to be a ditzy idiot, yet some of her actions just don't make sense. Add to that, after the MMC has something happen to him that he had no control over, all of a sudden everyone is mad at him & acting as though his actions were his own choice. To me, this is an authors way of trying to create drama just to make sure the story isn't lacking drama. There isn't anything organic to it and it isn't at all believable.

Honestly, I think I would really really like this story if it had different narration & if the author made some minor changes to the believability of the story. In that case, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this series to a great many people who I know would enjoy it. As it is, it's not a series I would re-listen to.

Misleading reviews.

I purchased this series because of all the glowing 5 star reviews but it was nothing like they described. Suspicious of a campaign where free books were provided for good reviews.

The heroin and lead characters act like petulant immature adolescent children. Chapter after chapter it got worse, not better.

Where’s the character growth someone said was great? Nope, just long winded inner monologues of Sam battling with fear and Alex’s self loathing.

Thrilling story lone? Try again, the story had very little depth. It was like listening to a teen age soap opera or reality tv show.

I listen to a ton of audio books so I’ve a lot to compare too. I typically love to support the hard work of authors and narrators and I really hate writing bad reviews but I hate being mislead even more.

Great Great Story

Love this story and all the characters. Just the right blend of action, romance, and suspense and yes a little drama. The narrator did a great job with the different characters. Cant wait to see what happens next. Highly recommended.

Tells an Amazing New Story inside a Familiar World

Hildenbrand strikes again with the Witches of Half Moon Bay Series, solidifying herself as one of my favorite authors. Books 1-3 took me on a wild ride through (what seemed like) grand adventures and emotional turmoil. Hildenbrand fits a lot of content into these stories without making books seem bogged down or plot too slow. I'd say she uses a bit of Old Magic, herself, being such an incredible story-teller! The 26 hours was highly worth it, and I even found a way I could listen to this at work, I just couldn't get enough!

Of course, the story would not be the same without Pruner giving us an amazing performance. There's something about her voice, her tone, the was she dictates sentences that just brings everything to life! Pruner takes what she's given and runs with it, and I swear I could listen to her all day. Technically, I already have.

This was just so amazing, that I can't even find a good way to describe the feelings I have towards it. At the very least, I know I need to read the rest!

Good storyline

The narrator’s voice for Sam can grate on your nerves when first listening because it makes you think of a petulant child instead of a young adult, but I got used to it. The storyline is good and keeps you interested. So interested that I’ve ordered 4,5&6.

Amazing!

I love, love this audiobook! The first book may seem frustrating as the main character is frustrated by what's going on but this just speaks to how well it's written since you feel everything she feels. Sam's growth in the second and third book as the mystery of her powers gets revealed bit by bit is fantastic! I loved the story and the narration was spellbinding. I loved finding moments to listen to this series.

Thankfully, it's a set!

Witches of Halfmoon Bay books 1-3 by Heather Hildenbrand and narrated by Kelly Pruner are a set of books surrounding Samantha Knight, a human dropped into the supernatural world to save it.
Book 1 spends its time on getting Samantha to believe in the supernatural world, when she is spending much of her time forgetting things.
Book 2 is trying to help Samantha learn what she needs to know to save the world.
Book 3 is Samantha using what she has learned, and continues to learn, to save Alex, who has been cursed.
Kelly Pruner does a good job with feminine voices, but I had a hard time figuring out which male was talking until it said who it was. Also the male POV was not done in a masculine voice. In my opinion, this would have been a perfect example for a duet narration.
Heather Hildenbrand has done an amazing wonderful job with world building and storyline. Each of the three books in this set continues to grow with the characters, but not continously tell you things from previous books unless they are pertinent to that dialogue or thought.
Would I listen to this book/series again? Yes
Would I recommend this book/series to others? Yes.
I think that it's well written for young teens and clean enough for older people who don't want lots of steam. They are sweet enough for me to tell my mom about them. That is a HUGE compliment from me.

Sucked Right In

I received an audio version of this boxed set for review: all opinions are my own.
I was sucked into this story. Sam was a great protagonist. She didn't fall into the fantasy tropes that get used so much. Instead, she was her own person and I was excited to follow her o her magical journey. The first book starts off great, drags a bit in the middle, but the ending is awesome. The second doesn't have that issue and was great entertainment. The last one changed tone a bit. there were some jokes I wasn't expecting (while there is nothing wrong with these jokes, it just seemed out of place.)
I enjoyed the narration. Some of the characters weren't given distinct voices but you could tell they were different from the main characters.
But overall, I love this first boxed said. I look forward to seeing what happens next.

Unique Story that is hard to stop listening to

Book 1 does a great job of introducing us to the town of Half Moon Bay and everyone who lives there. We meet Sam, a timid human girl surrounded by the supernatural, at least you think she’s human. . . As Sam is forced to confront a world and a power, she hid from herself for years, causing her to block out what is happening around her, until her life is put in jeopardy for ignoring everything.
Alex is struggling to find a way to rid a poison from his body and he travels all over trying to find a cure, landing in half moon bay and meeting Sam.

Book 2: Samantha’s memory is back! Now she needs to figure out how to use her power and save the wolves! The scared person Sam was when she lost her memory is starting to fade away as she gains confidence in herself. Alex drives me a little nuts with his narrow way of dealing with what is happening to him.
I did like getting to know more about Alex’s past, but his not opening up and sharing what he is thinking with Sam makes me frustrated with him. I feel like so many problems between the two of them could have been handled if he would have just shared his thoughts with her and encouraged Sam in her power, instead his bottling everything up seems to weigh on Sam’s confidence.
I loved the relationship between Sam and RJ! RJ is the best and I am so glad he is there for Sam through all her ups and downs.
I love that she has Harold in her life, he is so funny and a great sounding board for Sam.
Getting to learn more about the Hunters and Wolves and the back story of how they came to be was so cool. Sam working for CHAS has me a little conflicted. Sure it’s awesome she has access to all their resources, but I still feel like she is kept in the dark more than she should be and that is leading her into a very dangerous position of not knowing who is on her side and who is against her.

Book 3: Alex has me shaking my head. I wish he would have talked everything through with Sam and trusted her to make the decision vs making it for her. Now he is the one paying the price for magic and hurting everyone around him. He gives Indra power and influence over him and it seems the cure is so much worse than the illness he had.
I love the growth Sam continues to have as she keeps learning more and more about her powers and how she should use them. I love Britney! I was so worried she was going to turn against Sam and I was really wrestling with that. Again, her lying to Sam ended up being a big mistake IMO. I just wish everyone would stop trying to decide for Sam what she should and should not know.

Kelly does a great job narrating all the different characters and bringing the story to life.

I would recommend this series if you:
Love Paranormal Stories about Witches and Wolves.
Love a good vs evil story where the main character must go on a hero’s journey and grow throughout the series.
Like characters that make you love them one minute and then make you want to scream the next.
