Description

Summer camp is a traditional teenage rite of passage, but when you add supernatural powers to the typically high dosage of adolescent hormones - you get an even more combustible mix. Sixteen-year-old werewolf twins Kate and Logan Danvers are none too thrilled at being shipped off to a supernatural youth leadership conference in West Virginia.

From the moment they arrive at the camp, the twins sense something is off, and they react in their usual manner - Logan reserving judgment and surveying the setup while Kate charges forward, determined to get answers. Kate and Logan quickly ascertain that most of the conference attendees have already formed hostile factions, leaving the twins and a few other misfits to band together.

What seems like teen hormones in overdrive becomes something much more dangerous, even deadly. Add in a strange magic-warded cabin in the woods and a local history rife with curses and macabre legends, and it becomes clear this was a really, really bad place to build a camp for teenage supernaturals.

Author's note: This is book 1 in a YA duology. As with all my YA trilogies, this first book ends in a cliff-hanger. Book 2, Wolf's Curse, comes out in March.

Teenage angst in a supernatural world

Story wise, it's pretty simple, I can guess the next story beat with everything that happens. What's the next most shocking thing? Probably that will happen.

Most of which could be avoided if anyone had communication skills and got their head out of their own asses. I'd give this a pass.

Lots of potential, mediocre execution

This was my first introduction to Kelley Armstrong and I was excited to be exposed to a new world with new characters. I really enjoyed the book for the most part and was interested in the politics of supernaturals. However, the book didn't seem to know what it wanted to be. At times it felt like it wanted to be a teen drama book, others a political drama and again at others it seemed to want to be a romance novel. I will listen to the next book in this series to see how the story progresses and the characters progress.

I found the performance by Austin Rising a bit distracting and did not think it was a strong as the delivery from Justin Bolding. While I can understand why they went with a female and male narrator for the chapters written from Kate and Logan's perspective, However, I found it continued to take me out of the story and left me only wanting to hear from Kate.

Lastly, I was very disappointed with the way this book ended as it brought no resolution to the story arch of the book and left the story at an extremely unsatisfying cliffhanger. Hoping I can come back after listening to Book 2 to find that some of these issues were addressed.

Goes nowhere

The book is just suddenly over and there is no resolution of anything. Maybe the author was trying to make a deadline? Story was interesting but it doesn't develop enough to end where it does.

Meh. Unimpactful Exposition

The story says a lot of nothing. The characters are not very interesting. There's no real mystery or suspense. It's not exciting. The writing style is weak.

One for the price of two

This should have been one book with the previous one. Neither stood alone. There was no logical break. It was as if someone hacked it apart in the middle of the action. It would be an entertaining YA book if it was one, but as two separate novels I recommend it.

Predictably young adult

I enjoyed some of the characters but found the plot predictable and strangely boring. I think the author is capable but was overall not impressed.

Great fun with lots of atmosphere and mystery

I really enjoyed this audiobook. First off I’m a big fan of Kelley Armstrong’s “Otherworld” series. It was one of the first urban fantasy series I read and it hooked me on the genre. How fun to see Elena and Clay’s children all grown up and immersed in angsty teenhood. Secondly I’ve been an audiobook listener for years and I think the narrators Justis Bolding and Austin Rising did a great job with all the characters voices.

The story develops well, we start off by seeing the twins at home with their families and we get a peek of them in their dual nature as werewolves. The mystery starts to develop when the twins are sent off to a leadership camp with other paranormal teens. Everyone is acting strange and the twins soon realize somethings not right. They make some friends and enemies and the tension starts to build.

Although this is a teen book it reads well for an adult audience. The writing is excellent as always, great character development, an interesting location and a well thought out mystery. This book ends on a cliff hanger which didn’t bother me at all because I felt it ended at the right spot. Now the author has more time to develop the storyline and the intriguing mystery. This is a new series and we had a lot to learn about Kate and Logan. I’m eagerly awaiting for the sequel Wolf’s Curse.

I want more XD

I wish YA novels were as long as adult ones, I hate how they inevitably end on a cliffhanger!

Partial book

Cliff hanger and not enough to interest me in purchasing the follow up book. I am a long time fan of Kelly Armstrong but this was not up to her usual excellence.

Disappointing

The story line was OK, however the story ends in the middle. The author stops everything with no conclusion just to sell her next book. It wasn't a cliff hanger, she just stopped the story. For this reason I would not recommend this book and would never again invest my time in another one of her books.

Well, Rhat Was abrupt

What just happened? I’ve never read a book with an ending that just cut off like that mid story. It wasn’t even a cliff hanger, it just ENDED.

Full star off for just a total mishandling on that. And another note that the male narrator was pretty bad.

OMG Cliffhanger?!DUH! Read the Description! I💜it❣

Let me just say, the hardest thing to read regarding this book is the reviews. If you don't whine, it is up to you whether you read the author's note, in the description, before you buy and read the book. If you are going to cry about things like having to buy a 2nd book when it clearly says book 1 of 2 right up near the title, maybe you should stop buying series. This book is clearly labeled for young adults. Many teens won't start a book that seems long. Do you remember when you had to read x amount of books for school?

As long as you know you will need to read both books and enjoy supernatural fiction, I recommend this book. To any teens, any followers that like Kelley Armstrong's books with
elements of magic in them, or anyone that is in the mood for a good werewolf coming of age story.

Now, on to the actual book. I really liked this book. We got to find out what the twins are like! Of course, they are still growing, in every way, but anyone that read the Otherworld books knew they would turn out awesome. At first, I was amazed Kate let anyone chip at her self-esteem and confidence. I know kids at her school don't know, but she is the only living and quite possibly the only werewolf ever to be born female. Then, I remembered how wobbly your opinion of yourself can be in those emotionally intense years of being a teen. She could basically have her choice of any teenage werewolf right now. If the thing with Elijah doesn't become everlasting love, she has no reason to worry. She is almost an adult and could basically pick any werewolf in the world, that is into girls. If you were a guy werewolf, wouldn't you want to be able to share everything with your wife, including chasing each other around in the forest and playing as wolves? You wouldn't have to be super careful with your super fragile gf, which is what humans are when compared with werewolves. You wouldn't have to lie to each other about anything. Wow! Sorry for the tangent.

I have always loved the world where these stories take place. I love that there are so many different kinds of supernaturals. It keeps it interesting. All the twists and surprises work brilliantly.

I want to say more, but I couldn't stop reading after I finished this book and went straight on to book two of this duology. The books are obviously mixing freely in my brain, but I don't want them to mix freely in my review.

The narrators were awful. The girl wasn't as bad as the guy. The story line was good.

Love Kelley Armstrong, but not this book :(

The narrator was great, and Kelley Armstrong is one of my all time favorite authors. But I'm disappointed that I didn't like this book. I was looking forward to it. Planning to request a refund, couldn't finish it. Others may love it, and I hope they do, just wasn't for me.

Amazing. But there is a cliffhanger

This was such a good start to this series, but there is a cliffhanger. I cannot wait for the next one to come out I have a feeling it’ll be even better than this one.

Loved it!

Like following the Danver twins on an adventure and (Spoiler Alert!!!) who would ever have thought to pair the Supernaturals against one another in quite this way? I read a lot and Ms Armstrong holds me enthralled every time.
