    Whats on our bench: 🎶

Pete struggling with not having his shop space free right now, cleaning the basement for his expansion of the print shop,

Dan worked on swapping the plug on his new planer, had a neighbor woodworker stop by to learn some skills, and has been catching up on orders.

Braden ran electrical for his new (to him) planer, completely rearranged his shop, carbon coated his tool cast iron,

    Questions:

    Platte Valley Woodworks

How do you avoid the scammers? I have been contacted twice in the last week by them for a similar project.

    Whats on our bench: 🎶
Logan is working on etsy orders for his jigs.

Pete is going through all his new tools to sell off to the community.

Dan got his new planer delivered to his shop and wired it all by himself.

Braden helped Dan hook up the new planer, sold off his dewalt planer, and inherited Dan’s grizzly planer.

    Questions:
    Dustin Suits
    Shop Humble
It seems like there are a ton of social media accounts in the woodworking space that are thirst traps. How are you planning on tapping into that market?
    Discuss.

    Brandon Phinney
If had a choice between setting up a 2 stall garage workshop or a basement workshop, which would you choose?

    Geoff
    Three Tails Woodworks
Thanks guys for the answer on the podcast. I’ll try to convince the client to go with a hardwood. I’m not against pine, but it’s not my first choice (probably last - but it has its place). I mainly use Windsor Plywood or Kingma Lunber Masters in Edmonton for my hardwood. Kingma has some good prices on 4/4 material. I’ll see what the client says. If I have to eat a few dollars, I’ll rack it up as a lesson.
Is 4/4 material thick enough for an ottoman table? I feel 6/4 would be better.

    Whats on our bench: 🎶

Pete is dealing with Tiktok shop issues, he had a documentary by Justin Mabie drop last week (GO WATCH IT!), and he had to go clear out a friend’s shop that was closing and now his workshop is packed with tools he has to sort through.

    Also, Got this box resizer!

Dan is trying to share more of his workflow and process for the inlays, catching up on the holiday orders, and dealing with some cancellations.

Braden remodeled Aretha’s office in 1 week! Finishing framing, new door, trim, and paint in less time then most of us take to demo the space. He’s also dealing with a difficult return on a large clock order.

    Questions:

    James

    Trash Panda

How can we keep using mineral oil as a finish on cutting boards? With all we've heard about people not being able to follow instruction. See flat pack furniture. How can we expect people to upkeep a cutting board?

    Mineral oil doesn't last forever!

    Geoff

    Three Tails Woodworks

I have a potential client build coming up. I started talking to this client in October about an ottoman table. They had no budget, and no direction about material. After some back and forth, I sent them a quote in November. Since then, it’s been radio silence until today. Is there any red flags here? The ottoman table shouldn’t be too hard they opted for pine with mitred corners. They provided the measurements of their existing ottoman.
