    Whats on our bench: 🎶

Pete struggling with not having his shop space free right now, cleaning the basement for his expansion of the print shop,

Dan worked on swapping the plug on his new planer, had a neighbor woodworker stop by to learn some skills, and has been catching up on orders.

Braden ran electrical for his new (to him) planer, completely rearranged his shop, carbon coated his tool cast iron,

    Questions:

    Platte Valley Woodworks

How do you avoid the scammers? I have been contacted twice in the last week by them for a similar project.

    Whats on our bench: 🎶
Logan is working on etsy orders for his jigs.

Pete is going through all his new tools to sell off to the community.

Dan got his new planer delivered to his shop and wired it all by himself.

Braden helped Dan hook up the new planer, sold off his dewalt planer, and inherited Dan’s grizzly planer.

    Questions:

It seems like there are a ton of social media accounts in the woodworking space that are thirst traps. How are you planning on tapping into that market?
    Discuss.

If had a choice between setting up a 2 stall garage workshop or a basement workshop, which would you choose?

    Geoff
    Three Tails Woodworks
Thanks guys for the answer on the podcast. I’ll try to convince the client to go with a hardwood. I’m not against pine, but it’s not my first choice (probably last - but it has its place). I mainly use Windsor Plywood or Kingma Lunber Masters in Edmonton for my hardwood. Kingma has some good prices on 4/4 material. I’ll see what the client says. If I have to eat a few dollars, I’ll rack it up as a lesson.
Is 4/4 material thick enough for an ottoman table? I feel 6/4 would be better.

    Whats on our bench: 🎶

Pete is dealing with Tiktok shop issues, he had a documentary by Justin Mabie drop last week (GO WATCH IT!), and he had to go clear out a friend’s shop that was closing and now his workshop is packed with tools he has to sort through.

    Also, Got this box resizer!
    https://amzn.to/49qI1gi

Dan is trying to share more of his workflow and process for the inlays, catching up on the holiday orders, and dealing with some cancellations.

Braden remodeled Aretha’s office in 1 week! Finishing framing, new door, trim, and paint in less time then most of us take to demo the space. He’s also dealing with a difficult return on a large clock order.

    Questions:

    James

    Trash Panda

How can we keep using mineral oil as a finish on cutting boards? With all we've heard about people not being able to follow instruction. See flat pack furniture. How can we expect people to upkeep a cutting board?

    Mineral oil doesn't last forever!

    Geoff

    Three Tails Woodworks

I have a potential client build coming up. I started talking to this client in October about an ottoman table. They had no budget, and no direction about material. After some back and forth, I sent them a quote in November. Since then, it’s been radio silence until today. Is there any red flags here? The ottoman table shouldn’t be too hard they opted for pine with mitred corners. They provided the measurements of their existing ottoman.

    2026 Yearly Goals:

    Dan:

    Expand 3d printing products

Do better (in life & on etsy)

    Grow website / shopify

    At least 2 Youtube videos

    Braden:

    Build arcade cabinet

    More deliberate with content creation

    More aggressive with brand deals

Build furniture for 3 interior design projects (for customers)

    1 Youtube Video

    Pete:

    6 Youtube videos

    125 unique listings

    50 IG posts

    Goal weight 190

    Finish camper

    Go to 1 new event

    Podcast:

12k Goal for St Jude for 26 only

Host events at other woodworking conventions

Be more deliberate about events and calls

    400 paid members

    Don't Die

    Questions:

    James

    Trash Panda

is it possible to make the design stage of furniture building sexy? Jokes about underwear to the side, but seriously how can a maker entice viewers with part of the process that is critical but just not as satisfying as bringing a project to completion? Maybe I just haven’t seen the right videos?

What’s one shortcut you’ve learned that doesn’t compromise quality, and a shortcut that absolutely does for better or worse?

How do trends, like social media, viral builds, or “Instagram woodworking” help or hurt the craft?

    Greg Bennett

    Windy Acres Works

Where do you get your First Aid kit and what are your requirements there are kits for car, travel, 200-500 person shops it just looks like a world of land mines

    Geoff

    Three Tails Woodworks

A CNC, 3D printer and laser walk into bar……… which one should I get first for the shop?? Kinda leaning towards the CNC. I have a 2 car garage for my shop, I’m looking at smaller units, like a bambu P1S or A1, 30”x48” CNC. The 3D printer would probably be used for personal stuff and maybe some production work and the CNC and laser would be for production work and customer orders.

Next question. I’m looking at going in new direction this year. Cutting boards and charcuterie boards have been a tough sale in my area, there’s lots of competition. I’m looking at going into tables and custom furniture and maybe jumping into YouTube. Do you have any tips on how to market myself and get my name out there? My clientele has mostly been friends, family and co-workers at my full time job. I’ve posted a few furniture items on a few community Facebook pages for my city with little success

    Whats on our bench: 🎶

Pete has been sanding the end grain boards and knocking out orders for ornaments that came in past the deadline. And planning for 2026 on his channel.

Dan broke a CNC bit, Kayla is helping in the shop to keep him on track, and got a small weird end of the holiday rush that he has to fulfil.

Braden has a rush or orders come in, finishing up organizing his shop, and working on the entryway to Aretha’s office.

    Questions:

    Nick

    NSM Woodcraft

If you could magically double the size of you shop would you do it? I only ask because the place I rent my shop space from reached out to ask if I want the unit next door as well. He would even allow me to connect the 2 spaces together. Obviously more money out of pocket a month but no more reconfiguring tools based on the task. So that would be a more efficient shop. Thoughts boys?
