  • The Link between Abortion Bans and Violence
    Apr 1 2025

In this episode of Gaslit, we’re bringing you an important conversation with Katie Grimmer of SAFE Alliance of Austin, an organization dedicated to fighting sexual assault and exploitation, child abuse, and domestic violence. Shae welcomes a special guest host Ivania to talk with Katie about how abortion bans actually put survivors of interpersonal violence (IPV) in greater danger. In a world where up to 20 percent of pregnant people experience violence while pregnant, this conservation is critical. Shae, Ivania, and Katie also discuss the concept of safety planning and why emotional safety matters, too. You’ll learn how interpersonal violence is a reproductive justice issue and why the practice of getting and giving consent has the power to build a better future for us all.

Content warning: This episode discusses topics pertaining to sexual assault, domestic violence, trafficking, and endangerment of minors.
