  • 321| Self-Awareness vs. Emotional Intelligence: Why Leaders Need Both (But Most Only Have One)
    Sep 22 2025
    Hey Friend!

We throw around words like they're interchangeable when they're not—and the difference matters. Weather vs. climate. Listening vs. hearing. Motion vs. progress. In leadership, we do this with self-awareness and emotional intelligence, treating them like synonyms when they're actually two distinct capabilities. I learned this the hard way as a young lieutenant walking into a room full of colonels and generals during a communication outage, knowing my triggers but needing to apply that knowledge under intense pressure. Self-awareness gave me the foundation, but emotional intelligence changed the outcome.

💬 "Self-awareness is knowing. Emotional intelligence is leading. Leaders need both."

    Want to Go Deeper?

Ready to build both your self-awareness foundation AND your emotional intelligence application? Let's uncover your blind spots, map your clarity, and see how blending both can transform your leadership presence and decision-making confidence.

    👉 TamiMarieCoaching.com/call

    🔑 Key Takeaways:
    • Self-awareness is the foundation - knowing your strengths, blind spots, and triggers, but it's just step one, not the destination
    • Emotional intelligence is the application - using that self-awareness to regulate, communicate, empathize, and connect with others
    • Without emotional intelligence, awareness becomes self-absorption - knowing yourself without applying it wisely can make you seem arrogant or unapproachable
    • Together they create sustainable leadership presence - people know what to expect from you because you can respond strategically instead of reactively
    • Your customers/team don't remember the glitch, they remember how you recovered - it's not what happens, it's how you handle it that builds trust
✨ The One Thing You Don't Want to Miss:

➡️ There's a gap between knowing your triggers and being able to regulate them under pressure. Self-awareness without emotional intelligence is like having a foundation without building the house. You need both the inner clarity AND the ability to translate that into confident, strategic leadership presence.

💪 Challenge if you choose to accept it:

This week, notice if you stop at awareness ("I was triggered by this") or if you apply it through emotional intelligence ("Now I'll use this knowledge to respond differently"). Don't just understand your patterns—use them strategically.

    📝 Journal Prompt for Reflection:

"Am I using my self-awareness to build stronger boundaries and say no to more things, or am I using it to push myself out of my comfort zone and lead with greater influence?"

  • 320| Why Most Leaders Fail at Emotional Intelligence (And the 5-Step System That Actually Works)
    Sep 15 2025
Why Most Leaders Fail at Emotional Intelligence (And the 5-Step System That Actually Works) Hey Friend!

Building emotional intelligence is like building a house—and most leaders are trying to pick paint colors before laying the foundation. I realized this when I built my house on 5 acres in Oklahoma. My excitement about fixtures and finishes had to wait because my builder reminded me: "First we pick the elevation and style. That informs everything else." Your leadership development works the same way. If you've read EI books, taken assessments, and attended workshops but still feel like you're winging it under pressure, you're not broken—you're just building on unstable ground.

💬 "Emotional intelligence without a system is just good intentions."

    Want to Go Deeper?

Ready to stop guessing about your leadership development and start building systematically? Let's identify which of the 5 dimensions needs your attention first and create a roadmap that turns self-awareness into leadership effectiveness.

    👉 TamiMarieCoaching.com/call

    🔑 Key Takeaways:
    • The 5 Dimensions of Impact Intelligence work systematically together: Identity Foundation, Growth Architecture, Leadership Expression, Strategic Vision, and Sustainable Success
    • Most leaders skip Dimension 3 (Leadership Expression) where your internal clarity becomes external influence—your presence, communication patterns, and boundary-setting
    • Random emotional intelligence tips don't work because they don't connect to your specific leadership wiring and core motivations
    • High-impact leaders develop EI systematically, not randomly by understanding which dimension needs attention first
    • Strategic clarity requires all 5 dimensions working together not just knowing your personality type or strengths
✨ The One Thing You Don’t Want to Miss:

➡️ Dimension 3 is the missing link most leaders never develop. You can know your values, manage your triggers, and have clear vision, but if you can't translate that into how you show up in the room, none of it matters. It's the difference between being self-aware and being strategically expressive with that awareness.

💪 Challenge if you choose to accept it:

Pause and ask yourself: Which of the 5 dimensions resonates most with where you feel stuck right now? Once you can name it, it loses its power over you.

    📝 Journal Prompt for Reflection:

"Which dimension feels most developed in my leadership right now, and which one feels like the missing piece that's holding me back?"

  • 319| Why Your Best People Are Quietly Updating Their LinkedIn
    Sep 8 2025
    Hey Friend!

Are you watching good people disengage or leave your team? Seeing departments operate like separate islands instead of one cohesive unit? The problem isn't your strategy or your people—it's that you're leading through your own lens instead of seeing things through theirs.

After two decades of guiding executives through team dynamics, I can tell you the leaders who master this aren't the ones with the most experience. They're the ones who understand that every person on their team has a different operating system. And once you learn to see through their lens, everything changes.

💬 "People don't leave hard work. They leave leadership that doesn't see them."

    Want to Go Deeper?

Ready to get clear on your next leadership move? Book a Leadership Strategy Call—your blueprint to clarity, confidence, and impact.

    👉 TamiMarieCoaching.com/call

    🔑 Key Takeaways:
    • Surface-level leadership manages behaviors and asks "What are they doing wrong?" instead of "Why is this showing up?"
    • Pattern-level leadership understands motivations and starts asking curious questions about the why behind behaviors
    • Identity-level leadership unlocks each person's unique design—like giving every chef the right tools instead of forcing everyone to use the same saute pan
    • The cost of lens-blindness includes high turnover, siloed departments, and losing your best people to organizations that actually see them
    • Strategic questioning transforms resistance into engagement: "What's your thought process here?" beats "Why won't you just do what I asked?" every time
✨ The One Thing You Don't Want to Miss:

➡️ When you have to repeat yourself three times to get through to a team member, that's not a process problem—it's a lens problem. Stop forcing your approach and start seeing their brilliance.

💪 Challenge if you choose to accept it:

Next time someone on your team pushes back or seems disengaged, resist the urge to explain your position. Instead, ask: "What's your thought process here?" or "What are your concerns?" Then actually listen to understand their lens.

    📝 Journal Prompt for Reflection:

"Which team member am I trying to force into my way of working, and what might they need instead to bring their best?"
