  • The truth behind Incyte’s HS Truths educational push

    Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is, by all accounts, a painful disease.

    An estimated 3 million Americans live with HS, which is most commonly identified by flare ups as well as painful and unflattering lumps under the skin.

    Over the past few years, drugmakers have launched campaigns and marketing efforts to bring greater attention and understanding to the disease.

    Recently, Incyte launched HS Truths – an educational campaign to shine a spotlight on the physical symptoms of the disease as well as the associated mental health challenges.

    Patient-led, HS Truths provides insights into how frustrating it can be to live with the disease before receiving a proper medical diagnosis – which occurs after an average of seven to 10 years.

    This week, Managing Editor Jack O’Brien is joined by Stephenie Atkins, senior director, brand lead product strategy and marketing at Incyte, to discuss HS Truths and how it serves to elevate the profile of HS as a disease state.

    Are you ready for some football?

    The 2025 NFL season kicks off this week with the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night.

    The highest linear TV ratings are usually delivered by live sports broadcasts and no entity is a more reliable generator for eyeballs than the NFL.

    It should then come as no surprise that drugmakers want to intensify their relationship with the league.

    Take, for example, Novartis was named the first-ever corporate pharmaceutical partner of the NFL in March.

    The announcement came one month after the Swiss pharma giant ran its first Super Bowl ad to raise awareness for breast cancer.

    While Novartis receives top billing as the lead pharma sponsor for the NFL, there are other health brands pursuing opportunities with players and franchises across the league.

    This week, we’re joined by Stacia Garner, VP of marketing at Edwards Lifesciences, to discuss the company’s partnership with the Los Angeles Rams to raise awareness of heart valve failure.

  • Ready Player Type 1: A video game designed for diabetes care management

    Video games are big fun and even bigger money.

    The International Trade Administration estimated that the value of the global video game industry in 2023 was $184 billion – with more than 3.2 billion gamers worldwide.

    Recognizing this new trend in media consumption and content engagement, medical marketers have been trying to break through in the gaming world.

    Few have had as much success as Level Ex – which develops video games for physicians.

    Almost a year ago, Level Ex was bought by Relevate Health, a 2025 MM+M Agency 100 honoree. Recently, the Level Ex brand was dissolved and the studio now operates under the Relevate Health branding.

    Level Ex’s founder Sam Glassenberg is the father of a child living with type 1 diabetes.

    He recently worked with his team to launch a free game for newly diagnosed patients and their caregivers to onboard them to diabetes care management management.

    For this week’s episode, Pharma Editor Lecia Bushak spoke with Glassenberg about the diabetes video game’s launch over the summer, an update on the first year under Relevate Health and what opportunities video games present to medical marketers.

    This week, Reunion Neuroscience reported a mid-stage success with its short-acting psychedelic drug in postpartum depression.

    At a moment of increasing momentum – both in terms of research, funding and commercial promise – behind psychedelics, it’s worth checking in with one of the leaders in the space: Cybin, a clinical-stage biopharma.

    In November, Cybin reported positive Phase 2 data for its major depressive disorder drug and has its sights set on next steps in the regulatory approval process.
