  • The Hero with A Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell, Part 1
    Aug 8 2026

Send us comments, suggestions and ideas here!

In this week’s episode we take the first step on the journey through The Hero of a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell and discuss, with nerd-like passion, the nuance surrounding each specific stage of the hero's journey as explained in the text. For a podcast that geeks out about symbolism; it doesn’t get much more bread and butter than this. In the free side of the show we make it through the first four stages of the heroes journey: The Mundane World, The Call to Adventure, Refusal of the Call and Supernatural Aid; touching upon the variety (or lack thereof) you can expect in each stage while using mythology both modern and classic as guide posts along the way. In the extended show we discuss Crossing the Threshold, the tremendous ordeal of being swallowed within the Belly of the Whale and the laundry list of trials each hero faces on their path to either Mordor or tax season. Thank you and enjoy the show.

    DISCLAIMER:
I think we need to clear up some confusion. First of all, I’m very tired. Secondly, I’m very tired. Thirdly, the book we’re studying, Hero with a Thousand Faces is by Joseph Campbell but is BASED upon Carl Jung’s ideas of the collective unconscious, the archetypes and the path to individuation by interaction with. When you’re manically alternating between exhaustion and manic excitement it's easy to get the Cs and Js confused ok?? That being said, Jung is quoted numerous times throughout the text. At this point just assume we’ve mixed up the names a number of times during this specific recording. My apologies. I'll sleep when I'm dead.

In this week’s show we discuss:
-The World of the NPC: The Office, the Shire and Tatooine
-The Call to Adventure: Neo, Barbie and Danny from the Shining
-Refusal of the Call: King Minos, Cypher and Luke Skywalker
-Supernatural Aid: Morphes, Beatrice of Dante’s Inferno, Weird Barbie
    -Magickal Black-Man Tropes

In the extended show available at www.patreon.com/TheWholeRabbit we go further down the heroes rabbit hole (gross) and discuss:
-Crossing the Threshold: Walking Through the Mirror, Entering the Temple, Vagina Dentata
-The Belly of the Whale: Being Pilled, The Trash Compactor, Jonah
-The Road of Trials: John Wick, Hercules, Pan’s Labrynth and Alice in Wonderland.

This episode was written by Luke Madrid in collaboration with Tim Hacker who wrote the skeleton of the schizo’s journey for each seventeen stages with commentaries. Additional commentaries by Mari Sama and Heka Astra.

  • The Silent War: Schizos vs. Psychos
    Aug 1 2026
Send us comments, suggestions and ideas here! In this week’s episode we explore if there is any truth behind the well loved, pop-psychology meme going around the internet the last few years detailing THE SILENT WAR; a covert struggle for the mind’s of the masses between a decentralized group of marginalized schizo-autists and a loosely affiliated cadre of enfranchised psychopathic elites: or more simply, the secret war between the schizos and the psychos - a theory that proponents claim is as old as time and offers us a new perspective on the dynamics between the hidden genius of charismatic predators who run things from the shadows and the weirdos like us who happen to notice them but can’t seem to get normal people to listen until it's too late. In the extended show we go into even deeper detail on how psychopaths manipulate the herd and some examples of exactly how it works all the way from the geopolitical stage to the work place. Lastly, we talk about how to identify and defend against the psychopath and hits plots. Thank you and enjoy the show! • The Odyssey: Homer vs. Plato vs. Nolan w/ Julian the Philosopher
    Jul 25 2026

Send us comments, suggestions and ideas here!

In this week’s episode we invite our friend Julian the Philosopher back on the show to discuss the mythic source material from which Christopher Nolan’s new film is based: The Odyssey. We discuss not just Nolan’s new film, but Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, quite a bit of the historical context around these works of epic poetry, how these stories were thought of initially, criticized by Plato, recontextualized by Virgil, translated countless times and transformed into Nolan’s new blockbuster film. As part of our larger conversation, we discuss the dichotomy between the Homeric hero and the Platonic Hero of the mind, considering how each incarnation of the story fits into this framework or not. Thank you and enjoy the show :)
