  • 67 [#ATC2025 Live] – In Conversation with Daniel Chait
    Nov 7 2025

A special VMJPod series – live from ATC 2025! We sit down with industry leaders to go beyond the buzz and discuss what AI really means for talent teams.

Series co-hosted by VideoMy Founder and CEO, David Maccioca and TaPod's Craig Watson.
    _______

We sit down with Daniel Chait, CEO and co-founder of Greenhouse, fresh off the stage at the ATC. Making his first trip to Australia from New York, Daniel shares insights from nearly 14 years of running Greenhouse and processing almost a billion job applications.

Daniel describes the current moment as the most disruptive time in Greenhouse's history, driven by the convergence of AI, remote work, and fundamental shifts in the job market. His presentation focused on how AI is simultaneously creating overwhelm for recruiters while candidates get lost in the mix, but also how smart organisations are using AI to solve these very problems.

We discuss practical AI applications in recruitment workflows, from automated interview scheduling that factors in who's available and qualified, to AI-powered insights that summarise interview scorecards and highlight areas of agreement, disagreement, and uncertainty across hiring teams. Daniel draws a clear line in the sand: AI should provide decision support, but never make hiring decisions.

Daniel also addresses the elephant in the room – legitimate concerns about AI hallucinations, bias, and compliance and what this means for talent teams in the future.

    Key Topics:
00:30 – Why now is the most disruptive time in 14 years of Greenhouse
01:45 – The "silver medalist" strategy: Movie tickets for final-round candidates
03:00 – How AI automates interview scheduling and insights generation
04:20 – AI-powered scorecard summaries: Highlighting confidence, disagreement and gaps
05:00 – Why fears about AI in hiring are legitimate and how to manage risk
05:40 – Monthly anti-bias audits and navigating global AI compliance
06:50 – The critical distinction: AI for decision support, not decision-making
07:20 – Australia vs. global markets: Same concerns, universal challenges

  • 66 [#ATC2025 Live] – In Conversation with Karly George
    Nov 7 2025

A special VMJPod series – live from ATC 2025! We sit down with industry leaders to go beyond the buzz and discuss what AI really means for talent teams.

Series co-hosted by VideoMy Founder and CEO, David Maccioca and TaPod's Craig Watson.
    _______

We chat with Karly George from BHP on day two of the ATC to discuss a significant achievement: BHP reaching gender balance across their entire organisation in May this year.

Karly reflects on how gender balance has fundamentally transformed BHP's culture, where Karly once would have been the only woman walking on a facility floor, today's BHP looks completely different. The principle she shares is simple but powerful: "If you can't see it, you can't be it." When people can see themselves represented, whether in the dining room of a remote camp or in leadership position, they feel welcome, happy, and do their best work.

Beyond gender parity, KArly discusses BHP's cautious but deliberate approach to AI adoption, including their use of Paradox for interview scheduling to enhance candidate experience. She challenges the perception of BHP as a slow-moving ship, revealing an organisation that's rapidly pivoting toward commercial technology and optimisation. No longer just a miner, but a forward-thinking enterprise embracing the future.

    Key Topics:
00:50 – Why ATC 2024 feels different: Seeds of ideas without definitive answers
01:20 – BHP's cautious approach to AI: Data interpretation and interview scheduling
02:10 – The historic achievement: Gender balance across BHP in May 2025
03:00 – The secret to success: Organisation-wide belief and never accepting no
    04:00 – How BHP's culture transformed over 13 years
04:50 – "If you can't see it, you can't be it": Representation matters
05:40 – Why diverse workplaces are safer workplaces
06:40 – Changing perceptions: BHP's evolution from slow ship to agile innovator
07:40 – Mining's role in Australia's future and the clean energy transition
    08:40 – Karly's conference highlights: Kevin Wheeler and Indeed's data-driven AI session

  • 65 [#ATC2025 Live] – In Conversation with Trevor Vas
    Nov 6 2025

A special VMJPod series – live from ATC 2025! We sit down with industry leaders to go beyond the buzz and discuss what AI really means for talent teams.

Series co-hosted by VideoMy Founder and CEO, David Maccioca and TaPod's Craig Watson.
    _______

We talk to Trevor Vas, industry expert and ATC co-founder, to explore how AI is accelerating the evolution of recruitment into strategic partnership. Trevor shares how he used AI back in 2023 to analyse why an insurance company couldn't fill a data scientist role, demonstrating how AI could compare value propositions and provide market intelligence that talent professionals previously lacked. What was cutting-edge then has become standard practice today, marking the rapid shift in how the industry approaches talent challenges.

We discuss that while everyone says they hate repetitive work and want to be more strategic, there's often a hidden fear of actually making that transition and why if talent professionals want to truly earn "a seat at the table," they need to bring their own chair.

Looking ahead to ATC 2026, Trevor floats an idea: bringing strategic hiring managers into workshops where talent professionals can practice having advisory conversations in a safe environment, bridging the gap between high-level concepts and practical, in-the-weeds implementation.

    Key Topics:
01:00 – The talent advisory concept: From face value acceptance to real-world adoption
02:30 – 2023 case study: Using AI to solve a data scientist hiring problem
03:40 – The mindset shift: From AI fear to AI partnership over just 12 months
04:40 – The hidden fear: Why some people prefer transactional safety over strategic work
05:50 – "If you want a seat at the table, bring your own chair"
06:40 – Generational differences in AI adoption and resistance to change
07:20 – Why job transformation can be as significant as life's biggest changes
08:20 – ATC 2026 preview? Workshops with hiring managers to practice strategic conversations
09:20 – Bridging the gap between birds-eye view and practical implementation

  • 64 [#ATC2025 Live] – In Conversation with Ross Clennett
    Nov 6 2025

A special VMJPod series – live from ATC 2025! We sit down with industry leaders to go beyond the buzz and discuss what AI really means for talent teams.

Series co-hosted by VideoMy Founder and CEO, David Maccioca and TaPod's Craig Watson.
    _______

We sit down with industry legend Ross Clennett, attending his 17th Australian Talent Conference. As a long-time trainer, coach, and commentator on the recruitment industry, Ross brings an unflinching perspective on how AI will transform agency recruitment, and why he thinks most agency owners aren't prepared for what's coming.

Ross explains that generative AI will reduce total employment in recruitment agencies by automating low-skill work, but those who remain will become significantly more valuable and highly paid. He identifies sourcing, screening, and scheduling as the low-hanging fruit for AI automation, yet notes that most agency owners, who succeeded because they love the human side of recruitment, aren't thinking strategically enough about the productivity gains and cost savings AI could deliver.

The conversation tackles a critical paradox: if AI automates the entry-level tasks that junior recruiters traditionally learn from, where will the next generation of experienced recruiters come from? And what will the very nature of work look like in ten years' time?

Ross draws a powerful analogy to Seek's impact on newspaper classifieds: Ten years after Seek launched, the Friday AFR still had 115 job ads. Ten years after that? Just six. His warning to agency owners: "You won't have a business unless you stop and reflect on what's coming."

    Key Topics:
01:30 – How generative AI will reduce agency headcount but increase value of remaining recruiters
    02:40 – Why most agency owners aren't tech-oriented and what they're missing
03:50 – The graduate pipeline crisis: What happens when AI replaces entry-level learning?
05:20 – Why RPOs have a bright future if they lean into AI and labor market expertise
07:00 – The decline of high-volume white-collar agencies: Why Hays and Michael Page are struggling
08:10 – The gigification of white-collar work: Ross's concerns for the 30-45 age bracket
09:40 – Why most agency owners would sadly dismiss ATC content as too far removed from daily operations
11:00 – The Seek analogy: How 10 years can completely transform an industry

    Nov 6 2025

A special VMJPod series – live from ATC 2025! We sit down with industry leaders to go beyond the buzz and discuss what AI really means for talent teams.

Series co-hosted by VideoMy Founder and CEO, David Maccioca and TaPod's Craig Watson.
    _______

Vanessa Hofman, Talent Attraction Manager at Australia Post, dropped by on day two of the Australian Talent Conference. As a first-time ATC attendee with two decades of industry experience, Vanessa shares her fresh perspective on AI adoption in one of Australia's largest organisations.

Vanessa discusses how Australia Post, with 64,000 employees, is navigating its AI transformation journey at an enterprise level, with Microsoft Copilot now at every employee's fingertips. She reveals the talent function's focus on moving consultants from reactive administrative work to becoming trusted advisors who can make real impact at facility sites and warehouses, a shift that AI tools are helping to enable.

The conversation highlights a key theme from the conference: the industry's mindset shift around AI. Vanessa notes that only 1% of attendees in an Indeed poll expressed fear or hesitation about AI, compared to widespread anxiety just 6-12 months ago and that human superpowers – creativity, emotional intelligence, and adaptability – remain irreplaceable.

    Key Topics:
01:20 – Australia Post's AI journey: Enterprise-led transformation reaching TA
02:20 – Microsoft Copilot deployment across 64,000 employees
03:20 – Moving talent consultants from reactive to trusted advisor roles
04:20 – The mindset shift: From AI fear to AI embrace in just 12 months

  • 62 [#ATC2025 Live] – In Conversation with Gareth Flynn
    Nov 4 2025

A special VMJPod series – live from ATC 2025! We sit down with industry leaders to go beyond the buzz and discuss what AI really means for talent teams.

Series co-hosted by VideoMy Founder and CEO, David Maccioca and TaPod's Craig Watson.
    ______

In this episode we talk to Gareth Flynn, CEO of TQ Solutions, following his talk at ATC and recently returned from Unleash Paris. As a talent and workforce expert, Gareth brings a global perspective on AI transformation, sharing critical insights about why most companies aren't seeing ROI from their AI investments yet – and what needs to change.

Gareth's key revelation: organisations have been treating AI as a technology implementation project when it's actually a complete cultural transformation and reinvention of work. He explains the crucial shift from generative AI to agentic AI, where agents actually do the work instead of humans, and why this is where businesses will finally see the massive productivity gains they're seeking. However, with employees operating in "psychological fear territory," companies must involve workers in co-creating the future rather than imposing change upon them.

The conversation explores how the talent acquisition function will fundamentally transform, with 60-80% of current TA work ripe for automation. But rather than pure headcount reduction, Gareth envisions TA professionals focusing on workforce insights, job design, talent attraction, and helping organisations solve what he calls "the biggest redeployment problem the world's ever faced."

Gareth also delivers sobering assessments of Australia's position in the global AI race, comparing it unfavourably to the aggressive investments in the Middle East, UK, and Asia, while offering a provocative perspective on why Australia's mining wealth has made the nation complacent about innovation.

    Key Topics:
01:15 – Why no one is getting ROI from AI yet: Key learnings from Unleash Paris
01:50 – The shift from generative AI to agentic AI: What's the difference and why it matters
    02:45 – Why AI isn't a tech project – it's a cultural transformation
03:15 – Employees in psychological fear: The performance drag no one's talking about
04:20 – How 60-80% of TA work will be automated and what comes next
05:15 – Working "left and right of the rec": TA's future in workforce insights and redeployment
06:20 – Companies leading AI transformation: Novartis and Lloyd's Bank case studies
07:15 – Lloyd's Bank: Transforming into a fintech through radical leadership change
08:40 – Competition from AI-native businesses: Why traditional companies are at risk
09:40 – Data protection vs. innovation: Why Australia should avoid Europe's regulatory mistakes
10:45 – Middle East opportunity: Why Dubai and UAE are winning the AI infrastructure race
11:45 – Australia's slow follower status: The complacency problem and what needs to change
