    This episode features Puget Sound Energy CEO, Mary Kipp. From her off-grid childhood to a career dedicated to overhauling energy systems, Mary has learned the values of curiosity, humility, and how she fills leadership gaps. Mary Kipp has extensive executive and leadership experience with public companies in the energy services industry, with particular emphasis on energy efficiency and being at the forefront of climate conscious innovation. The CEO of Puget Sound Energy since January of 2020, Mary is a collaborator who motivates her team to show up as their whole selves with a shared vision of providing quality service to the region in the continuous pursuit of transitioning that service to 100% clean energy... implementing some of the most ambitious climate policies in the nation. Mary joined PSE from El Paso Electric (EPE), serving in various leadership roles from her start in 2007 to the role of CEO since 2015. She gained extensive knowledge during her tenure by taking on roles throughout the company, including General Counsel, regulatory and rates, risk management, human resources, external affairs, customer care, environmental, and safety. She was the youngest-ever president and became the company's first woman CEO in EPE's 120-year history. Prior to EPE, Mary was a prosecuting attorney for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for four years, investigating and prosecuting violations of federal energy laws. Mary also worked as a lawyer at El Paso Natural Gas Company and at Greenberg Traurig, LLP. Mary's leadership style is one of collaboration and humility, with an emphasis on encouraging her team to be good listeners, decision makers, and critical thinkers. What started as an internship at the record label, which is known for launching artists such as Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney and a great range of talented artists, flourished into an impressive career in the music industry. As CEO of this quintessential Seattle company, Megan injects her wit, grunge vocabulary, and unique leadership voice into this constantly changing industry. A self-proclaimed “misfit,” Megan’s music industry experience began at a young age as the co-host of a late-night grunge music radio show. In 1989, Megan landed an internship at Sub Pop Records, and was quickly hired as the label's receptionist. After a few years’ hiatus where she went on the road with the band Dinosaur Jr. and dove into other musical ventures, she returned to the label as Senior Project Manager before being elevated to EVP and now has nine years at the helm as CEO. Megan strives to create a culture of belonging, and shares how she is embracing the curveballs while continuing to hone her business acumen with the real-world and often wild experiences of the entertainment industry. Her leadership extends beyond the workplace as a board member and advisor for several creative organizations, including youth-led The Vera Project and the city task force that abolished Seattle’s Teen Dance Ordinance.     This episode features an iconic disruptor of basketball, Karen Bryant. Karen (colloquially known as "KB") is a professional sports executive who has played a key role in establishing professional women's basketball, with a particularly meaningful impact on Seattle's basketball culture. Widely acknowledged as a professional sports visionary and community leader, KB has deep roots in Seattle - She started her basketball journey as an athlete at Woodway High, then on to Green River Community College, SeattleU, and the UW. At just 30(ish) years old, she was recruited by the American Basketball League (ABL) to launch the Seattle Reign of the ABL. After the ABL folded, Karen was hired by the Ackerley family and the Seattle SuperSonics in 1999 to help establish what is now the 4x WNBA Champion Seattle Storm. An executive leader within the sports industry for over 25 years, Karen spent 15 years with the Seattle Storm, where she served as COO for six years before holding the position of President and CEO for her final seven years with the team. Karen was a crucial member working for both the Sonics and Storm during the now infamous departure of the Sonics and the transition of the Storm to the all-women Force 10 ownership group. Under her guidance as President & CEO, the Storm won the WNBA Championship in 2004 and 2010. After a successful run with the Storm, Bryant co-founded KB2 Sports, an advisory company focused on growing and advancing women’s sports. Bryant was hired by the Sparks in 2021 as a strategic advisor before taking on the role of Interim President, Business Operations. KB continues to influence the global sports landscape as an advisor and consultant across a variety of sport organizations, and her list of accolades and philanthropic contributions is seemingly infinite, including being named Sports Executive of the Year at the Seattle Sports Commission's annual Sports Star of the Year Awards.
