    Jul 18 2025
This episode features an iconic disruptor of basketball, Karen Bryant. Karen (colloquially known as "KB") is a professional sports executive who has played a key role in establishing professional women's basketball, with a particularly meaningful impact on Seattle's basketball culture. Widely acknowledged as a professional sports visionary and community leader, KB has deep roots in Seattle - She started her basketball journey as an athlete at Woodway High, then on to Green River Community College, SeattleU, and the UW. At just 30(ish) years old, she was recruited by the American Basketball League (ABL) to launch the Seattle Reign of the ABL. After the ABL folded, Karen was hired by the Ackerley family and the Seattle SuperSonics in 1999 to help establish what is now the 4x WNBA Champion Seattle Storm. An executive leader within the sports industry for over 25 years, Karen spent 15 years with the Seattle Storm, where she served as COO for six years before holding the position of President and CEO for her final seven years with the team. Karen was a crucial member working for both the Sonics and Storm during the now infamous departure of the Sonics and the transition of the Storm to the all-women Force 10 ownership group. Under her guidance as President & CEO, the Storm won the WNBA Championship in 2004 and 2010. After a successful run with the Storm, Bryant co-founded KB2 Sports, an advisory company focused on growing and advancing women’s sports. Bryant was hired by the Sparks in 2021 as a strategic advisor before taking on the role of Interim President, Business Operations. KB continues to influence the global sports landscape as an advisor and consultant across a variety of sport organizations, and her list of accolades and philanthropic contributions is seemingly infinite, including being named Sports Executive of the Year at the Seattle Sports Commission's annual Sports Star of the Year Awards.
