What happens when your job becomes your entire identity? For many high-achievers, the line between a strong work ethic and a work addiction can become blurry, leading to burnout and a disconnect from what truly matters.

  • Having Agency Over Your Aging with Ashley Selman | #22
    Sep 18 2025

Aging is part of the human experience, but as our bodies change, so must our approach and mindset toward caring for them.

Imagine going from being an elite athlete and coach to Olympic track and field athletes, to barely being able to move only a few years later. When you have spent your 20s identifying as strong, physical, and healthy, losing the ability to move freely can feel like a devastating loss.

That is exactly what today’s guest, Coach Ashley Selman, experienced. After having a hip replacement and going into perimenopause in her early 40's, her body began to take a turn. She needed to find a solution and eventually discovered BFR, or Blood Flow Restriction training.

BFR is something both Jay and Coach Selman have in common, and discovering it was a huge “Hey, Wait” moment for them both. It's a powerful tool not only for women navigating menopause, but for anyone with an aging body.

In this episode, Ashley talks about:

    • Her path toward becoming a coach

    • Blood Flow Restriction: what it is and how it works

    • Women losing muscle mass sooner than men due to Human Growth Hormone

  • Becoming Me: Turning Shame into Medicine | #21
    Sep 11 2025

Why is it so hard for so many of us… to simply be ourselves?

No one becomes a Somatic Healing Coach by accident. Learning to connect with what you feel on the inside doesn’t always come easily. For Jay, that realization began after one of the most painful experiences of her young life, separating from her first husband.

In this very special and illuminating episode of the Hey, Wait Podcast, Jay sits down with former guest Sara Rusbatch, who turns the tables by interviewing Jay about her own life experiences. Together they trace the moments of trauma and transformation that shaped Jay into the person, author, coach, and educator she is today.

In this episode, Jay talks about:

    • Her childhood and feeling disconnected with her inside
    • Getting married young and experiencing separation and divorce
    • The value in working one-on-one with clients vs. corporate
    • Her mission & her legacy
