  • Having Agency Over Your Aging with Ashley Selman | #22
    Sep 18 2025

Aging is part of the human experience, but as our bodies change, so must our approach and mindset toward caring for them.

Imagine going from being an elite athlete and coach to Olympic track and field athletes, to barely being able to move only a few years later. When you have spent your 20s identifying as strong, physical, and healthy, losing the ability to move freely can feel like a devastating loss.

That is exactly what today’s guest, Coach Ashley Selman, experienced. After having a hip replacement and going into perimenopause in her early 40's, her body began to take a turn. She needed to find a solution and eventually discovered BFR, or Blood Flow Restriction training.

BFR is something both Jay and Coach Selman have in common, and discovering it was a huge “Hey, Wait” moment for them both. It's a powerful tool not only for women navigating menopause, but for anyone with an aging body.

In this episode, Ashley talks about:

    • Her path toward becoming a coach

    • Blood Flow Restriction: what it is and how it works

    • Women losing muscle mass sooner than men due to Human Growth Hormone

Why is it so hard for so many of us… to simply be ourselves?

Together they trace the moments of trauma and transformation that shaped Jay into the person, author, coach, and educator she is today.

  • Improvising Your Life with Amanda Hirsch | #20
    Sep 4 2025

The world may try to tell you otherwise, but you have the sovereignty to choose the kind of life you want to live.

When we think of improv, we often picture shows like Whose Line Is It Anyway? or Saturday Night Live. While improvisation on TV can be incredibly entertaining, choosing to improvise in life by saying “yes, and…” can move you away from the scripted path others expect and toward a life that truly feels right for you.

In today’s episode, author, artist, entrepreneur, and improviser Amanda Hirsch joins Jay for an inspiring off-the-cuff conversation. Amanda shares her story of reclaiming her own life and offers practical tips and exercises you can start using today. Together, they explore how asking “why?” (or “Hey, wait”) and making a “new choice” can better align your desires, passions, and energy.

In this episode, Amanda talks about:

    • Choosing a different life path than the scripted one in front of you
    • Daring to ask “Why?”... Sometimes more than once
    • Noticing what is a “yes” and what is a “no”

  • Removing the Stigma From Your Food Behaviors with Stephanie Mara Fox | #19
    Aug 28 2025

In times of stress, we seek to self-sooth our nervous systems… But it isn’t always beneficial in the long run.

When we think about eating, it’s easy to forget how deeply connected food is to our nervous system, early attachment experiences, and even the ways we relate to ourselves. Eating is not just about nutrients. It’s about safety, grounding, and the body’s attempt to protect itself.

In this episode, Jay sits down for an insightful conversation with Stephanie Mara Fox, founder of Somatic Eating and somatic psychotherapist, to explore how we can begin to understand our relationship with food from a place of curiosity and compassion. Stephanie shares how hyper-palatable foods can become stand-ins for secure attachment, the impact of diet culture on our nervous system, and practical ways to start building trust with our bodies and our meals.

In this episode, Stephanie talks about:

    • How food behaviors can reflect survival strategies and unmet attachment needs
    • The role of somatic awareness in understanding impulses around food
    • Practical ways to reconnect with your body through somatic pauses and neutral body check-ins
    • Food fawning and the ways people-pleasing can show up in eating behaviors

  • Finding Home and Safety Within Yourself with Craig Walker | #18
    Aug 21 2025

When we hold a baby, we naturally cradle the neck and the tailbone.

In that moment we are tuned in to something gentle and instinctive, an awareness of subtle energy. It comes so easily to us as parents, and yet it’s so often abandoned in our own wellbeing as adults.

Many sensitive people, including so many listeners of this podcast, describe feeling as if they “lose themselves” around others. Subtle energy is about deep inner regulation and the quiet exchange that happens between human beings. It is always moving within us and flowing all around us.

In this episode, Jay shares a heartfelt and practical conversation with Craig Walker, a chiropractor, yoga instructor, and educator, who helps people strengthen their connection to themselves and to the world through an understanding of subtle energy.

In this episode, Craig talks about:

    • Subtle energy: what it is and how it works
    • The value of coordinated breath
    • Empathic people are genuinely capable of absorbing the energy of others
    • Gaining attunement to your body and your surroundings
    • The layers that exist within you

  • Redefining Badassery with Marta Czajkowska | #17
    Aug 14 2025

“Whose story am I serving right now?”

Have you struggled with feeling invisible? Shrunk yourself to fit a mold? Before you learn to stand up for yourself, you have to learn how to see yourself. Marta Czajkowska knows this truth better than most—not just from therapy or theory, but from the side of a cliff, 20,000 feet in the air.

Growing up in communist Poland, Marta learned to survive by staying small. But even while disappearing into the roles others expected of her, something wild was already stirring. At 15, she set her sights on Yosemite’s El Capitan, and spent the next few decades climbing literal and metaphorical mountains to find freedom.

In this episode, Marta about how chasing freedom led her to an even deeper question: what does it mean to be fully alive?

Marta is a climber, author, soul-guide, and the founder of Masters of Badassery. Through a near-death accident, a bathroom-floor breakdown, and a hard-won reawakening, she emerged with a mission: helping others break free from societal scripts and step into their boldest, truest selves.

    In this episode, Marta shares:

    • Why freedom isn’t about escape—it’s about embodiment
    • Her Hey, Wait moment in Yosemite that shattered her invisibility
    • How mountaineering forged her ability to sit with clients in their deepest unraveling
    • Why breaking down isn’t the end—it’s often the beginning of becoming

Marta doesn’t offer easy answers. She offers a mirror, a path, and the invitation to remember who you were before the world asked you to shrink.

  • How to Say “Hey, Wait” Without Power Playing | #16
    Aug 7 2025

Do you find yourself trying to one-up others? Or maybe you tend to one-down instead?

Whichever direction you lean, both have something in common. Contempt. Whether it’s contempt for yourself or for the other person, it disconnects you from having a true, grounded experience of yourself. Even if it feels satisfying in the moment.

Today, Jay speaks directly with you about what happens in your body when you fall into one-upping or one-downing. Saying “Hey, Wait” means noticing when it happens, tuning in to how it feels in your body, and learning how to move away from that sensation toward something more authentic and connected.

In this episode, Jay talks about:

    • Going one-up or one-down in relation to other people
    • One-up is contempt for the other person. One-down is contempt for yourself.
    • The feeling in your body associated with each choice, & how to use your body to bring a sense of equality back to the conversation.
    • Her upcoming book!
