Nell'estate del 1940, un ragazzo di undici anni ascoltò il padre che leggeva e spiegava ai fratelli maggiori "l'Inferno" di Dante; le due estati seguenti toccò a "Purgatorio" e "Paradiso". Proprio quel ragazzo, che all'epoca capiva meglio il concerto delle cicale che non le terzine del poeta, mezzo secolo più tardi avrebbe spiegato e letto Dante ai microfoni della radio e in più di cinquecento letture pubbliche.

After his soul-searing journey through the torments of hell, Dante is led by his guide, Virgil, to the frontier of Purgatory, depicted as a vast mountain that represents the sole piece of land in the Southern Hemisphere.
