The management of persons with obesity is challenging, made even greater due to the numerous myths and misconceptions among patients and clinicians. For example, “Obesity is a choice, not a disease.” “Weight loss of at least 10% is needed for any health benefit.” “Drugs should not be used because weight will only be regained once they are discontinued.” Science and clinical experience, however, tell us otherwise.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection are significant gastrointestinal challenges that impact patient quality of life, requiring proper diagnosis and treatment. In this 60-minute, case-based educational activity, multidisciplinary faculty guide clinicians through contemporary diagnostic techniques and evidence-based treatment strategies for both nonerosive and erosive GERD, as well as H. pylori infection.

An indolent subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, follicular lymphoma is characterized by eventual relapse of disease and the need for multiple lines of therapy, adding to the significant disease burden experienced by patients. Novel targeted agents in the relapsed/refractory setting have afforded new treatment options, but important clinical challenges exist, including optimal treatment sequencing, therapy evaluation and patient selection, transitions of care requirements, as well as toxicity management.

Human milk is optimal for preterm infants due to its ability to offer protection against potentially life-threatening complications such as necrotizing enterocolitis. However, the concentration of many nutrients in human milk—whether mother’s own milk or donor milk—falls short of meeting those required to support growth and development. To achieve growth targets for preterm infants, macro- and micronutrient supplementation is a critical component of an adequate nutrition care plan.

Alessio Fasano, MD, world-renowned for his research on the gut microbiome focuses on the ways in which the gut microbiome influences allergy and autoimmunity.
