May Day, or Beltane, is approaching, and the veil between the world of the Land Spirits-- the Fae-- and the everyday folk of Vardo has grown thin. The town turns out to celebrate with Maypoles, bonfires, and Yohopa ceremonial dances at the annual Beltane Festival. The festivities will also celebrate the grand opening of Gideon’s Grimoire, a new occult bookstore on the Vardo Town Square, with a visit from famous fantasy author Dahlia Clarendon. Her appearance marks the launch of her latest book, Queen of Wands.

In the aftermath of World War II, Francine “Fritzi” Fontaine longs to escape the stifling heat and segregated society in her home town. When she falls for Second Lieutenant Joe Stoddard, a cadet in the U.S. Army Air Corps, she also finds her ticket to see the world. Fritzi and Joe get married and fly off into the wild blue yonder, where he becomes a test pilot and Fritzi the quintessential Air Force Wife. Along the way, Fritzi gives birth to four children - two girls and two boys - while Joe moves up in rank and pays his dues as a pilot and officer.

The Howloween Festival in Vardo, Oklahoma, attracts thousands of tourists to celebrate Halloween in the quirky town because it's also home to the mysterious Owl Woman. With the haunting face of a barn owl and the body of a woman, the creature is known to swoop through the Halloween skies and descend on her victims with a vengeance.

Perrie Spock has made a career out of being comfortable around cadavers. So the skilled Oklahoma undertaker barely bats an eye when the body of a young woman is dumped outside her funeral home in the small hours. But it feels less like a regular workday when she begins to receive beyond-the grave pleas from the newly arrived stiff. With more shocking ghostly messages driving her to investigate further, Perrie reluctantly teams up with the local sheriff to solve the crime.
