A group of total strangers, all looking to make dramatic lifestyle changes, visit an open house in hopes they are about to find their dream home. They don’t know why the old house in the little town of Scarecrow, Illinois is so attractive to them. They quickly determine the house is no home, but find they cannot leave.

When the Trotter family moves to a haunted home in rural Iowa, they immediately wish they knew more about its previous residents. After a fatal tragedy decades before, locals are reluctant to discuss what happened in the house. Thomas Trotter is the first to recognize supernatural forces are at work in the home. Unable to convince his parents of the danger, he must work with his new schoolmates to unravel the mystery of what happened to Cynthia Fischer, the woman who used to sleep in his bedroom - and who may have died there.
