T.S. Eliot tells us in his poem “The Hollow Men” that the world will end not with a bang, but with a whimper. Well, he was wrong. Dead wrong. When death and destruction come, the screams of terror, horror, and excruciating pain will rend the blood-red sky and be heard across the world. When your number is up, there’s nowhere to run and no place to hide. You can't cheat death; death will find you. It always does.

Jake Adams finds himself on his isolated Montana ranch enjoying early summer when he gets a call and finds out an old friend has died in a tragic accident. This death brings back old memories for Jake, but the circumstances of the death seem unbelievable. So, together with Sirena, he takes the corporate jet to investigate.

Jake Adams gets a heads up from an old colleague that the Chinese Communist Party has put out a hit on him. This isn't a new concept for Jake to comprehend. Many have come for him in the past, killing those closest to him. But now Jake has too much to lose. He must retreat and regroup before going on the offense. With Sirena's help, along with a cast of characters from his past, Jake takes it to his enemies in the most brutal counter-offensive he has ever launched.

Jake and Sirena are currently hiding out in Kotor, Montenegro, when their billionaire benefactor hires them to look into corruption surrounding this normally sedate seaside country on the Adriatic. Car bombings and gang shootings have become commonplace and extremely disturbing for the government of Montenegro. For some reason the Montenegrin police and intelligence community can't seem to get a handle on the violence. So far, most of the deaths have involved rival gang killings.

When a scientist working for the Gomez Organization is found dead in a remote Antarctica station, Jake Adams is called back to work for the billionaire. The problem is Sirena is away visiting a friend in Europe, and he is tethered to his Utah ranch with his eighteen-year-old daughter, Emma. So, he decides to bring his daughter to South America. After all, up to this point in her young life, Jake had taken her nowhere. What could possibly go wrong? Nearly everything! Simultaneously, the Gomez Organization is experiencing anomalies across the globe.

Former Eugene Police Department detective, Paul Adler, has major problems. Officially, he's on an extended administrative leave. Unofficially, he was forced to retire early for conduct unbecoming a police officer. Until he can get reinstated, or until he drinks himself to death, he has taken on private investigations, where his lack of a filter makes him a true Dick. China has a plan for the next hundred years, and they're making moves around the world for complete domination politically and economically.
