Dr. Hawkins begins this lecture by stating that our true purpose is to transcend from our original animal nature, otherwise known as the ego, to the realization of Divinity. He then guides us throughout this talk on how to allow the unfolding of this Truth. He explains our predicament: We have no idea where we came from, why we are here, who we are or where we are going. We are faced with the continuous uncertainty of life, everything we cling to is attacked and undermined by doubt within ourselves. However, the Presence of God as Self is the source of one's own existence.

In this thorough explanation of the human ego, Dr. Hawkins points out that the difficulty with the mind is that it doesn't know the difference between that which is mental from that which "is".
