Libby and Alexis’s business, the Dharma Inspired Day Spa, will participate at Mesa’s biggest arts and crafts fair this year, but right from the start, bad stuff starts happening. On the very first morning, several booths are vandalized and products are stolen, among them the hand-knitted items Libby’s mom and her friends have made for charity. Everyone pitches in to get the booths rebuilt in time for the festival opening, but the calamities keep piling up. Dogs are becoming ill, one vendor’s business is being threatened with shutdown, and there’s more theft.

It all started one blizzardy Kansas night when a half frozen Indian staggers into Somerville and dies right there on the floor of Wilson’s Barbershop…but not before telling a crazy story and showing a lump of gold that looks strangely like a golden buffalo patty.

Lovelyn Pettigrew wants to transform the mansion and collection of fine art inherited from her grandmother into a world-class museum. She has one week to submit a proposal to her family foundation. Her parents prefer the museum to operate downtown with a staff they’ve already hired. Her success depends on authenticating the works their curator dismissed. She finds the receipt for the egg rumored to be one of the missing Imperial Faberge works. When she calls the gallery in London, she is given an email address to send proof of the artifact.
