As a Nisga'a writer, Jordan Abel often finds himself in a position where he is asked to explain his relationship to Nisga'a language, Nisga'a community, and Nisga'a cultural knowledge. However, as an intergenerational survivor of residential school—both of his grandparents attended the same residential school—his relationship to his own Indigenous identity is complicated to say the least.

I would like very much to be able to take full credit for the inspiration of writing this book. I am unable to do that because I do not feel that I am capable of coming up with this particular idea. It was a divine gift. During a time when I was going through profound spiritual experiences, the thought gently came to me to write about it. I shared this with my Pastor and his response was a simple one, “Why not?” So, it has grown from there.

Emerald Eyes is a romantic adventure set in the late 1980s. Charlie is a young archaeologist, and T.J. is her childhood crush and substitute older brother. When Charlie is attacked and kidnapped because of a plain ceramic statue, T. J. and his security company must come to the rescue. Finding the origin of the not-so-plain-after-all statue leads them into the Amazonian jungles of Peru.
