In a hilarious reinvention of classic children’s books characters, this is a tale of a singular family tree from a forest in the Land of Oz that is cut down and carved by a sculptor into wooden puppets and candlesticks. The wooden puppets speak and behave as real children, but the parents, who are made into self-lighting candlesticks, are unable to walk on their own. Enter an unscrupulous pair of characters who, realizing the enormous worth of these rare, beautifully carved candlesticks, kidnap them.

With dogged determination and heroic bravery, Toto defended Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Lion against countless enemies while overcoming perplexing obstacles as he steered the way through one perilous adventure after another in the dark and dangerous Land of Oz. At least that is how Toto interprets his role in the adventures with Dorothy.

A modern-day 13-year-old boy and his 10-year-old sister travel back in time to the year 1939 in an attempt to exonerate a private detective wrongly accused of murder. Temporarily staying in a building built in 1918 in downtown Los Angeles, the kids discover a skeleton key that opens the door to the offices of a long dead private detective. Entering, they step back in time to 1939, the year the private detective was executed. In an inner office, they come upon the ghost of the detective trapped in a mirror on the wall.
