Wyoming Territory, 1871: Under a full moon at a sacred thermal area, Graham finds himself in Yellowstone a century earlier - one year before it was established as a national park.

All Graham Davidson desired was to marry Makawee, the beautiful Crow woman with whom he fell in love while exploring Yellowstone. He envisioned a quiet life on the frontier. But when he travels back to Montana Territory in 1872, his dreams are quickly shattered. Makawee’s father, Long Horse, demands a steep price for his daughter, and Graham must compete with a Crow warrior to win her hand. Tragedy strikes when she suffers an agonizing loss that scars her physically and emotionally.

After Graham Davidson witnessed Custer’s defeat at Little Bighorn in June 1876, he wanted a place to raise his family away from the battles of the Great Sioux War. Graham and Makawee travel with their two young children to northeast Oregon, hoping to find a home with the Nez Perce under Chief Joseph. When several Indian bands refuse to abide by a treaty that forces them onto a reservation, their peaceful life in the Wallowa Valley is shattered. Graham and his family join seven hundred Nez Perce in their flight from the US army in 1877.

After the tragic death of his Crow Indian wife, Graham Davidson is left adrift, searching for a purpose that always seems just out of reach. His journey leads him to join Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show, where he crosses paths with Sitting Bull, Annie Oakley, and other legends. He meets an aspiring horsewoman named Grace, whose friendship awakens feelings he thought were buried forever.
