Humanity stood down. But there are those who will never trust the aliens. The captain of the aging battleship Walker Pierce is one of them. He has spent months in disputed space, against the wishes of his superiors, looking for proof of alien treachery, afraid of what he might find. Because this time, if the aliens return, humanity won't be so lucky. 

The crew of the Walker Pierce must contend with a new alien threat far more powerful than any that has come before. Meanwhile, Captain Carter must contend with the increasingly erratic decisions coming from command. It all comes to a head in a desperate mission behind enemy lines. 

The time for peace is past. As the Kaxek forces begin their quest for Earth, new battle lines are drawn. Carter must navigate the tricky path between honoring his duty and protecting his crew. For the small band of opposition fighters, their last chance to alter events might already be gone.
