Hannah Esh fled the Home Valley Amish community with a broken heart, throwing herself into her worldly dreams of a singing career instead. The quaint Indiana town of Pleasant Creek is bustling with activity as Christmas draws near. Liz Eckardt is busy juggling the demands of her colorful guests at the Olde Mansion Inn in the delightful town of Pleasant Creek, Indiana, when she's summoned to jury duty. Expecting it to be a quiet respite from the hectic pace at the inn, Liz prepares to escape into a good mystery novel. But the waiting room is far from quiet. Fellow juror Nora Wexler is loud, rude, and spends her free time insulting people and complaining about her ex-husband. When Liz asks Nora to keep it down so she can read, Nora explodes in anger.

Thanksgiving is only a week away, and Liz Eckardt plans to make a delicious, home-cooked feast for her guests at the Olde Mansion Inn while she revels in the holiday festivities in Pleasant Creek, Indiana. In the end some of the Amish boys, despite their faith telling them to not fight back, decided that they have had enough and try and stand up to them. The next thing the Amish know is that they are being questioned over the murder of one of the local boys...Will Karson be able to identify the killer before an innocent young man is possibly convicted.

Warning: Before you even consider listening to this, understand that this is a story about a guy that is large, feels he is in charge, and is ready to kick some butt. In truth, he is essentially deaf, almost blind, socially handicapped, and has little sense of smell to boot. Add to that his basic disregard for proper attire and you have one humorous, heartfelt, and, at times, moving story. Okay maybe not that heartfelt or moving, but it may all depend on how you look at things.

After Ettie Smith's friend, Agatha, dies, Ettie is surprised to find that Agatha has left her a house. During building repairs, the body of an Amish man who disappeared 40 years earlier is discovered under the floorboards. When it comes to light that Agatha and the deceased man were once engaged to marry, the police declare Agatha as the murderer. Ettie sets out to prove otherwise. Soon, Ettie hears rumors of stolen diamonds, rival criminal gangs, and a supposed witness to the true murderer's confession.

Karson had almost by chance become a detective, and due to his extensive knowledge of the Amish community he was much in demand. Internal conflict and bad memories cloud his judgement, yet his sixth sense just kind of kicks in on this clean, short mystery. Will his past prevent him from helping solve this case, or can he rise above it all to serve the community, even if he is unsure if he loves it or despises it?

An Amish woman is attacked. She's left for dead. The community remains closed-lipped. Detective Kelly turns to Ettie Smith to ask questions within her secretive community. When an arrest is made, Ettie is convinced the person is innocent, but will the detective believe it? Kelly finally concedes, but with Paula hovering between life and death, the pressure is on the detective to find the perpetrator.
