For decades, it has been easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism. In the decade leading up to the 2008 financial crisis, booming banks, rising house prices, and cheap consumer goods propped up living standards in the rich world. Thirty years of rocketing debt and financial wizardry had masked the deep underlying fragility of finance-led growth, and in 2008 we were forced to pay up.

I have had the honor of combating corruption for my entire adult life. In truth, I actually began this battle as a child. I bring this work focused on interview and interrogation forth as the third volume in the 10 volume set of the arsenal with which I intend to arm the current, former, and next generation of corruption fighting colleagues in the global effort to bring corruption to its knees. I intend for the next generation to be well armed with the remarkable foresight of history, sharing, and an abundance of caring.

Debtors have been mocked, scolded, and lied to for decades. We have been told that it is perfectly normal to go into debt to get medical care, to go to school, or even to pay for our own incarceration. We’ve been told there is no way to change an economy that pushes the majority into debt while a small minority hoard wealth and power. The coronavirus pandemic has revealed that mass indebtedness and extreme inequality are a political choice. In the early days of the crisis, elected officials drew up plans to spend trillions of dollars. The only question was: who would benefit?
