Dating to the ninth century BC, Homer's timeless poem still vividly conveys the horror and heroism of men and gods wrestling with towering emotions and battling amidst devastation and destruction, as it moves inexorably to the wrenching, tragic conclusion of the Trojan War. The Odyssey is the second - the Iliad being the first - masterpiece by Homer. The story of a long journey by the king of Ithaca, Odysseus, as he returns home after the Trojan War has been frequently published, staged, and filmed. This audio performance of the classic epic poem is comparable to the ancient method of travelling artists who sang their poems in hexameter.
