Greek Philosophy

Aristotle's Poetics is best known for its definition and analysis of tragedy and comedy, but it also applies to truth and beauty as they are manifested in the other arts. In our age, when the natural and social sciences have dominated the quest for truth, it is helpful to consider why Aristotle claimed: "poetry is more philosophical and more significant than history." The Treasure was originally taken from the Second Temple in 69 AD, just before the Romans sacked Jerusalem and the Temple. The Treasure was split up and hidden in 64 different places in and around Jerusalem. Those locations were documented on the Copper Scroll found with the Dead Sea Scrolls. The first of these scrolls were found by Bedouins in caves at Qumran in 1947. The Copper Scroll was later found in cave number 3 by professionals in 1952.

"De la vie heureuse" est un traité de sagesse, intemporel et universel. Il a été écrit par Sénèque comme un dialogue avec un interlocuteur imaginaire, vers 58 après Jésus Christ. L'œuvre est dédiée à Gallion, frère aîné de Sénèque. Son principal objet est de montrer que le bonheur n'est pas matériel, mais naît d'une vie en accord avec la vertu et la raison (selon les préceptes du stoïcisme).

In Plato's Ion Socrates discusses with the titular character, a professional rhapsode who also lectures on Homer, the question of whether the rhapsode, a performer of poetry, gives his performance on account of his skill and knowledge or by virtue of divine possession. It is one of the shortest of Plato's dialogues.

The Menexenus is a Socratic dialogue of Plato, traditionally included in the seventh tetralogy along with the Greater and Lesser Hippias and the Ion. The speakers are Socrates and Menexenus, who is not to be confused with Socrates' son Menexenus. The Menexenus of Plato's dialogue appears also in the Lysis, where he is identified as the "son of Demophon", as well as the Phaedo. The Menexenus consists mainly of a lengthy funeral oration, referencing the one given by Pericles in Thucydides' account of the Peloponnesian War.
