Moral Philosophy

"Nicht die Dinge an sich beunruhigen den Menschen, sondern seine Sicht der Dinge!" Der Grieche Epiktet (ca. 50-130) lebte in Rom und war einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter der späten stoischen Philosophie. Das "Handbüchlein der Moral", auch "Encheiridion", war sein bekanntestes Werk und fand in der Spätantike als Trostbuch eine starke Verbreitung. Der Wille sei so zu gebrauchen, dass Harmonie mit dem Weltlauf erreicht wird.

Nach der Lehre Epiktets soll der Mensch strikt unterscheiden, welche Dinge und Geschehnisse von ihm selbst beeinflusst werden können und welche nicht. Nur wenn diese Unterscheidung gelingt und bewusst wird, dann wird persönliches Glück erreichbar sein.
