Heute stellt niemand mehr die Frage, ob der Dialog Platon zugerechnet werden kann. Im Werk des Philosophen rechnet man ihn zu den Frühdialogen. Anders als viele andere platonische Dialoge ist der Menexenos nicht philosophischen Inhalts.

Ausgehend von dieser Frage, die der gerade aus dem Krieg zurück nach Athen heimgekehrte Sokrates den jungen Charmides stellt, entspinnt sich ein Gespräch darüber, was Besonnenheit (Sophrosyne) eigentlich ist. Charmides, der Dialektik des Sokrates nicht gewachsen, flüchtet sich zur Beantwortung der Frage in die philosophischen Ansichten des ebenfalls anwesenden Kritias, der denn auch im weiteren Verlauf des Dialogs die Rolle des Gesprächspartners von Sokrates übernimmt und gemeinsam mit ihm das erkenntnistheoretische Terrain innerhalb der Philosophie abschreitet.

Meno is a Socratic dialogue written by Plato. Meno begins the dialogue by asking Socrates whether virtue is taught, acquired by practice, or comes by nature. In order to determine whether virtue is teachable or not, Socrates tells Meno that they first need to determine what virtue is. When the characters speak of virtue, or rather arete, they refer to virtue in general, rather than particular virtues, such as justice or temperance.

The Charmides is a dialogue of Plato, in which Socrates engages a handsome and popular boy named Charmides in a conversation about the meaning of sophrosyne, a Greek word usually translated into English as "temperance," "self-control," or "restraint." When the boy is unable to satisfy him with an answer, he next turns to the boy's mentor Critias. In the dialogue, Charmides and then later Critias champion that Temperance is "doing one's own work" but Socrates derides this as vague.

Sense and Sensibilia is a work of the Greek philosopher and scientist Aristotle, included in the collection Parva Naturalia. The Parva Naturalia (a conventional Latin title first used by Giles of Rome: "short treatises on nature") are a collection of seven works by Aristotle, which discuss natural phenomena involving the body and the soul. They form parts of Aristotle's biology.

Apology is a philosophical dialogue written by Plato, chronicling the trial of Socrates. In this work, Socrates defends himself against charges of corrupting the youth and impiety, ultimately leading to his conviction and execution. Despite his defense, Socrates remains steadfast in his commitment to truth and virtue, refusing to compromise his beliefs even in the face of death.
