In this enchanting Clangers story, read by Oliver Postgate, a mysterious gift from the Iron Chicken leads Tiny and Small on a musical adventure. With only two notes left, Small Clanger carefully plants them in the rocky ground, hoping they might grow again. To bring them to life, the pair must ask the Cloud for help — but only polite requests will do. When the rain finally falls, the notes blossom into beautiful Music Trees, their branches hung with fruit-shaped notes that sing in harmony.

The Clangers run into a problem when their soup trolley breaks, so Major Clanger and the Soup Dragon attempt to create a machine to transport their delicious green soup from the soup wells into their home. The innovative device fails instantaneously when the pipes burst, spilling green soup all over the Clangers' floor. Mother Clanger is obviously upset that green soup coats her clean home, so the Clangers leave the troublesome contraption outside. Creative Tiny Clanger recycles the machine into a marvellous musical instrument.
