L'"Évangile selon Jean" est le dernier des quatre Évangiles canoniques du Nouveau Testament. La tradition chrétienne l'a attribué à l'un des disciples de Jésus, l'apôtre Jean, fils de Zébédée. L'évangile est constitué d'un prologue - qui commence par le célèbre "Au commencement était le Verbe, et le Verbe était avec Dieu, et le Verbe était Dieu" - et d'un épilogue. Ce prologue et cet épilogue encadrent le récit proprement dit, composé de deux grandes parties : respectivement la révélation du Christ devant le monde et la révélation du Christ.
