"Le Lévitique" est le troisième des cinq livres de la Torah (Pentateuque). Il doit son nom au terme "lévite", prêtre hébreu issu de la tribu de Lévi. Il parle des devoirs sacerdotaux en Israël. "Le 1er livre de Samuel" est un livre biblique qui fait partie des Livres historiques dans l'Ancien Testament chrétien et des "Livres des Prophètes" (Nevi'im). Le livre se concentre sur la vie de Samuel ; puis sur le règne tragique du premier roi d'Israël, Saül, choisi et oint par Samuel ; et enfin sur l'essentiel de la vie de David, dont la narration s'achève dans "le 2e livre de Samuel".
