At this point, all we can do is hope that we will all one day find happiness by doing what we know to be good, which is possibly subterfuge, paying penance for our inhumanities, the mistakes it takes to grow as a person, as people, evolve as a species. Some are mechanized as sheer predators, and others as sheer prey. Life, all life, seeks to survive. The mechanics of the mind is why we go to war. We are built to survive, love, feel, kill, eat, prey, and play. The cosmic recipe of our existence copulates the need for war.

A Delicate Balance of Reason is an observational critique of the contemporary 'culture wars' through the eyes of someone who has experienced the full weight of their effects firsthand. Flashpoint topics such as the trans debate, academic free speech, cancel culture and 'presentism' in art and literature are all covered; elsewhere there are more gonzo-esque, snapshot takes - caught, tidied up, and delivered with algorithmic immediacy.

After World War II ended in 1945, the Soviet Union and the United States began a decades-long confrontation that would become known as the Cold War. American foreign policy focused on "containment" - preventing the communist USSR from gaining more ground - and many people looked at the geographical and political implications of this policy. Others, meanwhile, explored American domestic life in that same period. But historian Elaine Tyler May became the first person to bring these seemingly unrelated areas together.
