人が嫌いで、昼間は決して外に出ない妙な男。いつものように夜の町を歩いていると、前から歩いてきたのは大きな電信柱。彼もまた、きまって夜に散歩をする。二人は意気投合し、さっそく一緒に歩き出す。ところが、妙な男は電信柱に向かって、おまえは背が高いから話しづらいと言い出した。そこで困った電信柱が町の屋根に乗せてやると、妙な男はいい景色だとおお喜び。しかし妙な男、電信柱には恐ろしい電気が流れると聞いて、きけんきけんと騒ぎ出す。ちょうどそのとき、東の空には夜明けの光りが… 電信柱には怖くて触れない妙な男。下に降りることができなくて泣き出した。そしてとうとう朝の人々に見つかった。おかしな場所に立つ電信柱も、屋根の上で泣く妙な男も、通る人々みんなに笑われた。それからは、妙な男は夜も外には出なくなった。電信柱も夜の散歩をやめてしまった。
