About this listen
In A Stranger in Town, the next riveting thriller from number one New York Times best-selling author Kelley Armstrong, the paranoia increases - along with the stakes - as the town of Rockton tries to solve the latest mystery at their door.
Detective Casey Duncan has noticed fewer and fewer residents coming in to the hidden town of Rockton, and no extensions being granted. Her boyfriend, Sheriff Eric Dalton, presumes it’s the natural flux of things, but Casey’s not so sure. It seems like something bigger is happening in the small town they call home.
When an injured hiker stumbles from the woods, someone who seems to have come to the Yukon for a wilderness vacation but instead is now fighting for her life, it’s all hands on deck. What - or who - attacked this woman, and why?
With the woman unconscious, and no leads, Casey and Eric don’t know where the threat is coming from. Plus, the residents of their deeply secretive town are uneasy with this stranger in their midst. Everyone in Rockton wants this mystery solved - and fast.

Awesome book! I love this series!

This book picks up shortly after the end of its predecessor with Casey and Eric meeting up with Cedra, Baptiste and Felicity from the first settlement.
I love how Armstrong is able to fully draw you into the work immediately. There is no waiting for that inciting incident to set the action in motion. In #astrangerintown this begins with a scream and a crash as a person flies out of the bush and collapses in the snow.
Bloody and obviously wounded, the person poses no immediate threat and so Casey and Eric immediately jump in to help. Problem is this person, a woman, doesn't speak English.
Making a choice to save her life, Casey brings her back to Rockton to her sister April for help.
With a help of a new resident, who just so happens to speak the tourists language, Casey and Eric find more bodies, and then even more bodies.
The obvious suspects are the Hostiles but Casey senses there's more to it and Armstrong delivers on the promise of more mystery and suspense as the novel progresses.
Each book in the Rockton series can be read as a standalone as Kelley Armstrong does a good job of recapping the important plot points in each novel however, a newcomer to this series may find the complex plot of A Stranger in Town a bit difficult to follow without the depth of understanding that comes from reading previous installments.
A powerful action narrative filled with just the right amount of suspense; this book ticked all the boxes I expect when nearing the end of a series. Armstrong was contracted for seven books in this series and with one left to write I was curious how she would tie up all the #looseends.
I cackled when Edward, the manipulative leader of the First Settlement, receives his comeuppance. I held my breath during the grizzly incident and was thrilled to finally learn about the origins of the Hostiles and where exactly they came from.
I cannot wait to get into book seven when it's released and as I mostly consume my books in an audiobook format as of late, must give a huge round of applause to Therese Plummer for her incredible narration of this series. Her voice perfectly embodies the image of Casey that I carry in my head and her delivery of the series has been nothing short of extraordinary.
As always, I recommend to begin at the beginning and start with Book One, City of the Lost to really immerse yourself in the town of Rockton and get to know the residents and enjoy this installment.
Smash Hit and great addition to the series
