Publisher's Summary
In this book, we will take a leisurely stroll through one of the most astonishing decades of all time.
The fifties were a time of rebuilding and coming together following the horror and destruction of the Second World War that left Europe divided between the capitalist West and communist East. It was a time when TVs started to appear in most households, and a little thing called rock and roll began to creep into the mainstream music charts. Most of all, it was a time when the world showed itself to be so amazingly resourceful.
In a decade that gave us Elvis Presley and the Baby Boom, we can begin to see a theme growing already for what these years would have in store. People were learning to enjoy themselves again, but they never lost their determination and drive.
Hollywood was just coming into its Golden Age, and the movies that were being produced were so far ahead of their time that it was mind-boggling. Actors such as James Dean, Charlton Heston, and Marilyn Monroe all blossomed in the fifties. Films with the stature of Ben Hur, Peter Pan, and Rebel Without a Cause seemed to be coming out each month, as every genre imaginable was being explored.
You may cry, you might laugh, and on more than one occasion, you will look up from the book and wonder just how amazing this generation was....
