Publisher's Summary

Almost bigamy and absolute murder - Agatha Raisin's life is never dull.... The morning of Agatha's longed-for marriage to James Lacey dawns bright and clear. But her luck runs out in the church when Jimmy, the husband she had believed long dead, turns up large as life and twice as ugly. Agatha has a go at strangling him. It's all too much for James, who breaks off the engagement. So when Jimmy is found murdered the next day, Agatha and James are both suspects. And they'll have to work together in order to clear their names....

Fun mystery with eccentric characters

I thought this was a good laugh. Not as suspenseful as some of her other ones but very listenable. I just found some of the phrases were really funny like "shove off", stuff it and bugger off". Next time someone's questioning me I'm going to tell them to stuff it and shove off lol.

lighthearted mystery

Loved the story and the wonderful read by Penelope Keith. She has such a great voice and because she is an actress who actually lives in a village brings some added reality to rhe story telling.

So much fun!

This book is so much fun. Initially I felt a bit reluctant, but Agatha won me over! Most middle-aged women will relate, I think...

Done with Agatha novels...

I need to not read any more MC Beaton books. Agatha is one of the worst characters, not likeable, and really not smart enough to really solve the crime. Why must there be some ridiculous romance aspect of unrequited love and the stupidity of a middle age woman trying to win the affection of an attractive man? I was almost hoping he would turn out to be a murderer and by this book the romance nonsense would just be a side note.
