Publisher's Summary

I was created as the ultimate dungeon trap. A living suit of armor that devours any adventurer who dons me.

My master created me for his entertainment, leading adventurers to ruin. Betraying them at the last moment, just when their glorious victory was on hand.

I have been found again by the newest member of a quartet of dungeon crawlers. Poor fool. This time will be no different.

Or does it have to be?

Maybe I don't need to spend eternity left in a deep, dark dungeon waiting to devour would-be heroes. Maybe, just maybe, I can take him over and use this new identity to leave and masquerade as an adventurer myself.

Betray my master—my purpose—and grow strong enough to find a new one. One problem. Hopefully, my new companions won't realize I'm not who, or what, they think I am.

Don't miss this progression fantasy epic from debut author C.B. Titus, about a cursed suit of mimic-armor and an unsuspecting hero. Perfect for fans of Dungeons and Dragons, The Murderbot Diaries, Goblin Slayer, and lovers of all things progression fantasy/GameLit.

leaves you wanting more but still satisfied

the book does in one novel what many stretch out to five. iv grown so use to having to wait for the next book to come out before I can find out what happens next that this was a pleasant experience. the whole book is pretty light hearted they go through a bunch of arcs in short succession but for the most part it leaves you happy in the end.

amazing characters and setting

I loved all the characters in the story, even the enemies, they never felt stereotypical evil or anything and all the main characters were likable. I loved the Faerun-esc setting like it were a game of dnd.

a delightful mix of fighting and friendship

this is my niche, automatons learning to become their own people and the story wastes no time getting you to love the characters. The protagonist has a very high power level from the start, the fights are more about creative then raw threat. His real challenges come from just fitting in and sorting through the lives he was forced to end when he was a minion. seeing him try so hard to be a good person despite being able to simply kill everyone before him is so very endearing.

Fast paced and Satisfying

One shot the whole story and very much enjoyed it. I loved how the MC adapted the the new emotions, comrades, and events and I really enjoyed how the MC grew mentally.

I would've have liked the story to last longer, especially since it from 10 to 10000 real quick, but it was thoroughly entertaining story that the pace is a minor complaint.

Fun premise.

Fun and fast paced I enjoyed the time I got to spend within the authors world. My main critique is that both the narrative and characters could have used a little room to breathe. In some ways the pacing reminded me of an abridged novel. Entire story arcs were introduced and concluded within just a chapter or two. This didn't decrease my enjoyment at all but rather left me wishing there was a little more that I could sink my teeth into.

Recomendation: while not the dramatic epic that is so common in the fantasy genre, if you are looking for a fun light adventure go for it! Plus there is just something I love about Heath Millers narration

an alright read

I'd like to start by saying this book shows up in a search for 'LitRPG' and it is NOT a LitRPG at all.

I don't think this will become a series, the character got a bit too strong by the end of the book, unless something even crazier will happen in further books. The story is quirky, and an interesting take on a non-organic in a fantasy world. It could have been better, and it could have been worse. Middle of the line story.

Not what I expected

It was a lot better than I expected, and not typical for the genre.

Great story

An interesting premise- a dungeon trap/monster decides to explore the world, with some pretty good character development, as well as a great narrator.

All in all, definitely worth giving a listen.
