Story
One afternoon - after another failed attempt to get motivated to exercise - I (accidentally) started my first mini habit. I initially committed to do one push-up, and it turned into a full workout. I was shocked. This "stupid idea" wasn't supposed to work. I was shocked again when my success with this strategy continued for months (and to this day). I had to consider that maybe I wasn't the problem in those 10 years of mediocre results. Maybe it was my prior strategies that were ineffective, despite being oft-repeated as "the way to change" in countless books.

The early "New Age" philosophy of "New Thought", which was wildly popular at the turn of the 20th century, owes much of its emphasis on the concept of "mind over matter" to the works of Thomas Troward. This audiobook contains the substance of a course of lectures given by the author in the Queen Street Hall, Edinburgh. Its purpose is to indicate the Natural Principles governing the relation between Mental Action and Material Conditions, and thus to afford the student an intelligible starting point for the practical study of the subject.

The introduction of the audiobook summarizes the idea beautifully:
Mind is the Master-power that moulds and makes,

Profound and Concise
Don't be fooled by how short this book is and dismiss it thinking a longer book would make for a better investment of time and attention. That was my initial line of reasoning and delayed my purchasing this book for several months, even though it's only a few dollars!
The lesson contained is one of those concepts so obvious it's almost difficult to accept - that your thoughts dictate your experience, your outcome, that what you are inside inexorably manifests externally. And so to strive for external change before executing the necessary internal, mental "cleansing" (I suppose, re-ordering, cleaning up... you get the picture) is futile. The argument is along the lines that a mind must be like a well-tended garden (in terms of your thoughts) if the goal is to yield desirable results. A poorly or lazily managed mind begets commensurate outcomes in reality.

Clear and beautiful
Would you consider the audio edition of As a Man Thinketh to be better than the print version?
I love the comparison between mind and garden. How we grow has to do with what we choose to cultivate and what we choose to weed out. The message really resonated with me and had a strong immediate effect on my consciousness. We easily forget our own power and this is a good reminder, a small step back to get a clearer view. It's short and it is a pleasure so I'll probably listen to it again.
What does Brian Holsopple bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I think his pacing is just right.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but I didn't seat, I went for a walk, that is why I use audiobooks.
