Publisher's Summary

In this powerful K-9 crime thriller, FBI Special Agent Meg Jennings and her trusted search-and-rescue Labrador, Hawk, must race against the clock before a diabolical killer strikes again.

Somewhere in the Washington, DC, area, a woman lies helpless in a box. Beneath the earth. Barely breathing. Buried alive. In Quantico, the FBI receives a coded message from the woman's abductor. He wants to play a game with them: decipher the clues, find the grave, save the girl. The FBI's top cryptanalysts crack the code, and Special Agent Meg Jennings and her K-9 partner, Hawk, scramble to the scene of the crime. Cryptic clues lead them astray, and by the time they solve the puzzle, it's too late.

But the killer's game is far from over. Soon another message arrives. Another victim is taken, and the deadly pattern is repeated - again and again. Each kidnapping triggers another desperate race against time, each with the possibility of another senseless death. That's when Meg decides to try something drastic. Break the Bureau's protocol. Bring in her brilliant sister, Cara, a genius at word games, to decipher the kidnapper's twisted clues. Meg knows she's risking her career to do it, but she's determined not to let one more person die under her and Hawk's watch. If the plan fails, it could bite them in the end.

And if it leads to the killer, it could bury them forever.

I really liked how all the clues were given. I loved the Civil War references. Well written and entertaining.

Wish I could give it 6 stars

First, I love working dogs and their handlers and the team that they form. Hawk and Meg make a wonderful team. Next, I love the family interaction, and bringing back characters from the first book.

The amount of research that was done for ‘Before It’s Too Late’ is remarkable and it makes the book real. I am finding it hard to say much more because I don’t want to give anything away. You need to give it a listen. Angela Dawe does a fabulous job as she always does.

love the series

I listened to her first book and while it isn't necessary to read the first book in the series, it does help. The story let's you in on Meg and her dog Hawk and how she goes up against a killer who is kidnapping women who look like her. He leaves clues and challenges her and her team to find them. The tidbits of history the author put at the front of each chapter was fantastic and it gave you more information on why the killer picked the site and method. Am looking forward to her next book

Too . . . Too

Good performance but the story was predictable and in-real. If I was your boss and you failed to provide information on an ongoing case, not only would I have fired you, I would have had you arrested.

Wow

This sequel to Lone Wolf was just as good if not better than the first. I am looking forward to the third book in the series. I hope it comes out soon!

It’s Too Late

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No, didn’t measure up to my expectations. My review on book 1 was spot on, and author did make this drama sequences good, but failed to make our two heroes believable and our K-9 friends just present but not endearing.
Writing is not easy, and this author tried to make a series develop before writing a great story.
See, Robert Crais, Suspect for a good K-9 writing.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I love K-9 books, see author James Rollins, The Kill Switch, a Tucker Wayne novel.
Book #1 is one of the best of this type of book featuring K-9 trusting paws. (I rated 4 and should have been 5, as I have re listened several times now)
You are right there when Tucker and Kane Para-jump together with Kane strapped on!

Which character – as performed by Angela Dawe – was your favorite?

I purchased both books 1 & 2 due to Ms Dawe as the reader. I wouldn’t have waited for this book if another reader, but Ms Dawe can only do her best with the editing.
This book was dry for lack of a better description.
See her Marcia Clark series, as she has game!

Any additional comments?

Note: I do use the 1.25x speed to match the author’s intent.
I have over 100 new listens, so unless a 5 star, I can’t re listen.
